Hey. I'm selling my 1973 FJ55. It is a major project, but it's got good bones, and is presmog. Right now it has no engine, but is set up for a small block. It's got a TH400 with an AA adaptor to the stock 3 speed. Drivelines and axles are there. Ran and drove last summer, I stole the engine for another project. It's got a clear CA title, in my name and is non oped.
The roof is hacked up as you can see. The rust is pretty bad, but the frame and floors are solid and the rust is all on the lower body and I cut the rockers off and had planned to replace it with square tube.
My overall plan had been to build this into a crawler to replace my FJ40 so I don't bash it to death on trails. I just have too many projects and not enough time or money to get to this.
The good:
FJ55s are cool.
The bones are in great shape
It drove great. Straight and easy and really fun to drive.
EVERYTING worked! Horn, lights, ect.
TH400 and AA are there and in good shape, worked fine. I drove her around a lot last summer.
Comfy bucket seats out of a Honda.
Clean, Clear CA title, pre smog
It's a Land Cruiser.
The bad:
Rusty lower body.
No motor.
The motor mounts need to be redone. They are too low on the fame and the PO welded blocks to the top of the axle to keep the axle from hitting the bottom of the motor instead of just moving the mounts up 1 inch. No reason you can't slap a motor in and go... but it annoyed me.
And.. of course... the top is cut off. I planned to take it all the way to the windshield and make half doors and a cage. Again, no one is going to restore this one, it's going to be a wheeler.
I'm in Grass Valley CA, and work from home so I'm around quite a bit if you want to come buy and check it out.
I'm asking $1100 OBO. Trades.. a few things I'd trade for sure.
The thing I'd like the most.. a rusty, smashed, rolled, or otherwise wrecked FJ62. I want the drivetrain. Same goes for an early FJ80, 91 or 92. An H55F 5 speed. A military cargo trailer. The small jeep ones, not the bigger heavy ones. A complete with electronics 3FE engine.
OR... 3FE parts so I can build my 2FE (so everything minus the block), late model split case, plus cash depending on what it is, what shape it's in, ect.
I had big plans for this guy, and I really hate to see it go... but I just need to downsize. I can't work on 4 4x4s at the same time and I have no idea when if ever I'll get to this. I'd really rather not part it out either. I am a few weeks away from another shoulder surgery and just can't do much lifting or moving heavy parts right now... and I don't want to tear apart a truck that needs and engine and tires to drive around again... even if it is ugly.
