TORRANCE, Calif., March 7, 2008 – Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A., Inc. will launch
a Customer Support Program to extend warranty coverage on certain 1995 through 2000 model
year Tacoma truck frames.
Toyota has received reports regarding a small number of Tacoma vehicles exhibiting
excessive corrosion of the frame, causing perforation of the metal. The frames of some vehicles
may not have adequate corrosion protection. When exposed to severe environmental conditions,
including accumulation of road salts, these vehicles may develop corrosion beyond normal
surface rust commonly found on metal after years of exposure.
Instances of this condition are isolated and largely confined to states which use salt for
winter de-icing of roads. However, to assure customers of its commitment to satisfaction, Toyota
is extending a rust perforation warranty covering 1995 to 2000 Tacoma truck frames for a period
of 15 years from original sale, with no mileage limitation, for corrosion damage resulting in
perforation of the frame material.
Should a customer’s vehicle experience this condition, they will be requested to present
it to any Toyota dealer for inspection. Upon confirmation of rust perforation, Toyota will, at its
option, repair or repurchase the vehicle. If it is determined that no rust perforation is present, the
extended warranty will be in effect for 15 years from original sale.
It is important to note that this is not a recall or special service campaign. The extended
frame corrosion warranty provides goodwill assistance to owners who have experienced, or may
encounter, frame problems as a direct result of rust perforation. Owners will be notified by first
class mail beginning mid-March 2008. Customers with questions or concerns should contact the
Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331

Toyota extends rust warranty on older Tacoma pickups to 15 years

Most are already aware, but here's some additional..

FYI, there have been some '01-04 models in the current buy back, those are rated at KBB Excellent, whereas the previous models are KBB + 150%. All this is thanks to Dana Corp.

*01-04s are now included in this bulletin, but instead of the buy back it's a new frame swap (Dealer's choice to swap everything over to the new frame or buy it back at around 150%). Letters are supposedly being sent out to the owners.

I didn't see any post on the 2001-2004 tacomas

I got a recall on my 2003 Tacoma for the frame this week. It says they extended my warranty to 15 years and rust coat the frame at no charge and a free loaner.

Replace frame 2002 tacomaA friend m

A friend just got his 02 back from Toyota with a brand New frame and some other things ,In Pennsylvania Rusted frame,

I won't be surprised if they do this again for the 05-current trucks. My brother in law's 60k mile 05 just got a new frame free of charge from toyota. They are rotting right next to the converters on the inner rails. Mine's fine so I rustproofed the heck out of it. There isn't an official program yet for these but my local dealer has done quite a few on a case by case basis.

Just to add a little information on the 2005 and up Tacoma's. I have frame perforation in several spots. Located in the Pittsburgh, PA region. This is a recent email from my service manager :

Mr. Moss,

We looked into the frame question on the Tacoma and the good news is help is on the way. Your frame will fall under a limited service campaign LSC-EOD which Toyota has started to roll out in mid May. Toyota has already launched this out in the Boston region with area's being added as availability increases for frames and rust resistant compound. They have not given us an exact date as to when this will begin in our region which is Central Atlantic, but based on past experiences normally it's not beyond six month's. I would encourage you to register your information if you have not at Toyotaowners.com this will insure that any correspondents from the manufacture reach you in a timely manner. I will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: Sep. 18, 2015
Just giving an FYI on my frame issues. Truck went in for a new frame in August, had a rental car issued, truck was ready in less than 2 days time. Picked it up and went over it thoroughly and crawled out from under in amazement. All seemed in perfect working order, and the only thing that cost me money was some rubber hangers for the dual exhaust I have installed. This process took a very long time but in the end my dealership and Toyota have convinced me that I will continue to own Toyota/Lexus vehicles.

Do you by any chance have any information with regard to notice of the 01-04s inclusion to the bulletin? I am unable to find anything, thanks.
