Hi everyone,
I have a a long run of copper pipe in the basement that was formally used to bring propane to the propane fired hot water heater. The propane hot water heater has been gone for well over ten years, and the pipe has sat empty. Can that length of pipe be used for water in the future, or should I just scrap the section of pipe?

Thanks,
Zack

Propane is mixed with ethyl mercaptan for the odor.
Exposure to ethyl mercaptan can cause headache, nausea, weakness, fatigue, incoordination, and irritation of the mucous membranes.

Not a good idea to use for drinking water if you ask me.

X2; pex is unreal cheap and practically plumbs itself...

Thanks everyone. Off to the scrap yard to sell the copper I go.

I ended up getting $22 for the section of pipe...I was a happy camper.

Good for you and congrats :) ALso it was a very good idea to sell because as Joe mentioned: using that pipe - not very good for your health.
