Moar pics with the bumper mounted. I still got some work to do, but here it is.

Got another oxygen bottle for my torch, and went to it. I've learned so much from this project; I like the bumper, but I think I can do better. Once I get it sandblasted and painted, I think I'm going to make another one with a more aggressive angle on the wings. It looks sort of boxy for my taste.

If anybody wants this one, let me know. If not, I'll probably scrap it.

I have a pipe bender and some schedule 40 pipe to bend for the grill guard. Say what you want about schedule 40 pipe, and how you think drawn over mandrel .120 wall is better. I'm using pipe. :flipoff2:

How am I doing so far, coach?!?!
@Pin_Head

@reevesci

I could use some help with the grill guard. I want something to protect my grill from other cars when i ram them off the road, and I need your help.

Here's the blank.

Looking good. I see you ground all the welds smooth so it won't have that oil field look to it. I say don't reinvent the wheel. Take a look at other bumpers out there and pick the style you like.

Thanks for representing for all the stick welders out there.

I just welded up the corner pieces just now, but I'll be grinding everything smooth. The oil rig look gets old quick, and the grinding got easier when one has a 7" grinder with a few stones. :D

I wasn't sure that I was going to like stick welding when I started, but now it's my favorite.

The pictures skipped an integral part of my trial and error. I ended up taking a bit off here and there, adding some things, and working with the design. I haven't weighed the bumper yet, but I don't think it weighs more than 70 lbs. I also measured my approach angle with the stock 265/70/16's, and saggy 18 year old suspension, and it's still impressive by my standards.

Now to bend some pipe, weld on the shackles, and install some bottle openers. :)

Not bad man, once you smooth the lines it will look better..

I started this morning on my wife's front bumper. Got everything tacked together. Need to do some shaving and then I will weld out and hopefully get the frame mounts done as well.

Keep up the good work.

More progress. Bought some conduit to help me visualize the center piece before I start bending pipe.

so are you going to do a winch mount?

so are you going to do a winch mount?

I've thought about it, but I don't have a winch yet. I also don't know anything about how to mount them, where to cut a hole for the fairlead, or how to wire it up. I've also shaved so much off the bumper that I need to make sure one will still fit!

I have to do some more research, but i need to know the bumper is exactly how i want it before I start the winch option if I do one.

Yesterday, I came to the conclusion that 1" pipe isn't going to be a large enough diameter. I need to go back and get 1 1/4" pipe for the center grill guard, and I'll use 1" for the support pieces that protect the headlight/blinker area.

For illustration rhino3d fits the bill.

You could also try rounded corners with 9 degree angles by cutting out a 1/4 section of pipe same thickness as the surface you will be butt welding to. for the corners, not sure how that would work.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Update: Welded up the new winch plate, the tow points, and added the bottom pieces to the sides, because it just didn't look complete with out it.

This was done with 6010 for penetration. I beveled the edges before I made a pass. I'm thinking about running a bead of 7018 over it.

It's starting to get heavy. I have the OME heavy lift sitting in boxes, and I'll put it in when I add the rear bumper, with the tire carrier. If anybody has a spare lx wheel PM me. My 315's are on and they rock, but it's not related to armor so I'll leave those pictures for another thread.

Almost forgot about this thread. Guess I should add pictures and show the pipe I bent yesterday.

And my rig on 35's now. I also had a chance to test the integrity of the welds on the D-rings the shackles are on. I yanked out a 3/4 ton Chevy with the left one. :D
