Sounds good. I appreciate the input. I'll gladly wait a month or two to get the best money. I'll snap a couple pictures of the underside in the morning when it's daylight and not raining but it looks good in my opinion. Everything is mechanically solid as far as I know. I'm no mechanic but I've driven it everyday for the last year and had no worries or concerns.

yes - finding a good one, getting it for the 'right' price and getting it before someone else jumps on it

I think this also creates pressure when you think you may or may not have found the one you want and you're standing there trying to make a fast(er) decision. Other people are calling while you're standing there with blind offers. Maybe that's rare, but it happened to me. They weren't lying.
I paid 15.7 for an '06 with 171k. All Texas owned and driven, perfect underside. With the right detail/clean up, and visually broken things fixed, it's a $18-20k car in my mind. A normal dealer would have fixed all these things, but not ma and pop typical used Houston dealer/recycler.

Happened to us when we bought ours back in 2009. I looked on CL every day for 4+ months, waiting for the right one to pop up. Once I saw it I called and somehow got the dealer to take a deposit over the phone and hold it for me, by the time I got there later that evening they said they had over half a dozen calls about it and others wanted to show up that evening too, but I put a deposit first.

Same thing again when I bought my 75 hilux - in the 8hrs between scheduling with the seller and me leaving with a new truck, the guy got 5 separate calls, 3 of which were during the test drive. One guy was going to come from out of state!

Sometimes you just gotta make the decision on the fly and buy it before someone else can snatch it from under your feet.

You mention that these LX/LC's have been in demand since 2009. Wow!! I only got interested in these 100's about a year ago.
Did not realize that this has been ongoing for the last 7 years.

Guys,

I have a 2001 100 series with just under 274,000 miles on it. Being a daily driver in New England for 15 years, it has a lot of underbody rust as expected. So much on the frame that the shop deemed it unsafe to drive. The front sway bar bracket has rotted off on the passenger side, and can't be replaced due to there being a hole in the frame where the bracket used to sit. That being said, the drivetrain runs like new. In the past year it has seen a new battery, alternator, windshield, and new brakes on all 4 wheels. The interior is in fair condition, definitely not anything to brag about. Realistically, how much could I expect to receive for this car?

Sounds like a parts car to me. If it's unsafe to drive and can't be repaired, I wouldn't expect more than a couple grand max.

Could buy a non-working, rust-free 100 and swap your engine/tranny into the rust free cruiser, then you have the machine you know with a rust free frame/body. But that sounds like a big job, at least larger than I would want to deal with.

Otherwise as stated above, sell it for a couple grand as a parts car, or sell the parts off it. Use that towards a rust free 100 from the south, and invest a little more to get it under coated each year (see fluid film).

Hello all, I am considering a 100, Here is my situation. I currently have a 99 Cherokee with 81k on it. stock and clean aside from a JCR bumper due to a deer strike. all service records and new ko2's. I was planning on a small small lift to replace the saggy rear sliders to stiffen/protect. It is a limited with factory upcountry so a bit "rare" I also have a 2000 Honda s2000 with 36k on it now. very clean car, not even typical bolster crush/wear.

here is my quandary. I could sell both and get a very nice 06-07 100. I am also expecting my first child and have a small-ish dog. The dog rides much better harnessed in the rear than in the back seat harnessed. I am quickly seeing the XJ as being too small even once I get the spare out of the rear.

I see late model 100's going for mid-high 20's. I have often paid more than "book" for the right vehicle, and from the right seller.

I see far more LX470's for sale, I prefer a Toyota. my plans with it again would be a very small lift, likely some ko2's and at least a bumper to protect the front end from an animal strike.

What do you guys think? the value of S2000's have been steady if not increasing in stock form. Cherokee's are similar in that regard as well. I'm in no real hurry so I can shop and find what I want. One thing is it has to have a clean interior, mainly drivers seat. I always felt like a dirty interior with broken leather is indicative of poor overall care of the vehicle.

you are on the right track with a LC. IMO its a great family car aside from the gas mileage. As far as finding the right truck, complete service records really help tell the story. Regarding the interior and seats...
I have seen dealers do lots of touch ups on leather seats. they look really good, but I fear it is a bandaid fix.

I would focus first on service records and visible signs of rust. beat up leather can easily be fixed with new seat skins for $1k in money. Rust and driveline issues are another animal.

I also really like the older LC's because you have the ability to swap the head unit.

I own a 2001 LC, and really like the manual air controls and no TPMS. you can put in a modern double din head unit and have more money for mods.

most newer LC's have the integrated NAV AVHC controls which I don't care for. Good luck!!!

I am very leery of the automart type dealers that seem to have these. Non nav and non ahc in a newer one seems to be the way to look. Also keep in mind I prefer simplicity over complexity.

Thanks for the input.

Thinking of putting my '00 LC on the market in the next month or so and going with a GX470. I just don't use the extra cargo room like I thought I would.

I think I might do the same thing, not as much $ either. I just need to find a way to sell my '01 lc for parts.

^Have you driven in a GX before making this decision? My neighbor bought a newer GX for his wife and though similar, I'd still rather drive our older 100 personally.
They're not that much smaller than the 100, only a few inches really so cargo capacities are similar to one another. Pretty much the same gas mileage since it's the same drivetrain but they do accelerate slightly faster since it's a little lighter vehicle. Middle row has more leg room, but obviously won't feel the same when sitting 3 passengers across it (or car seats). I'd think the general consensus around here is the LC platform is in many ways still superior to the Prado/GX platform and this would be a downgrade. Your choice, but having BOTH might be a choice for some...like old 100 for Him, newer GX for Her.

HELP!!!

I live in Florida, and want this 2006 in NJ... I am scared of RUST!!!

99k miles, all options, White. $19,000

If I buy this, I want it for 10+ years... Anything you see I should be concerned about? It is a NJ truck its whole life...

Ahh yeah.. why are u looking at a LC from NJ? Just wait a few and get a good spanking deal with No rust problems from Cali, Tx, GA, FL (Basically the southern states lower than TN). for the 19k u want to pay u'll surly find an awesome example down south.

Compared to what I've seen, that truck looks rust-free and off the lot compared to what everyone else is driving around, lol. For the investment and considering you want to keep it for 10yrs, I'd think hard about flying/driving out of state to find your rig...and then soak it in oil/kroil/fluid film/etc.

Looks like a scam. Virtually no rust, low mileage and lowish asking price.

Looking for a late model with under $100k.

There isn't much out there for under $20k.

three actually...

I really like it, but I'll keep looking.

I didn't think it looked like much rust.
Course you never know.
