It comes in a spray can like paint, auto parts stores carry it here in the states. There was a thread on here where they used it to remove red oversray from the plastic fuel tank expansion tank and the rubber hoses.
 
Agreed aircraft remover is a great idea. Most of the time it will bubble up cheap paint jobs in seconds and you're able to wash clean before it harms the original paint.

I got really careied away.. I have put in a new battery and removed the fuel inlet to the carby and sucked the petrol to the pump.. of course I filled up the tank first. The petrol arrived (in my mouth too) put back the inlet and gave a first dash into the carby and... grrrummmm
It hasn't been started since 2003 ish, -and it now run really nicely. Idling perfectly at 650.
Of course I took her on a maiden drive. Its like a tank. I have the swb for everyday use but this is completely different game. Its truly like a bus. It has so much power, unbelievable.
Drives perfectly. Gear is really nice, not even sloppy. Its a 4speed no power steering and its actually a nicer drive than my 84' LX. Maybe because this one has 140k km and the LX has 360k.
I don't know, I'm completely overwhelmed with the performance. Its strong, fast, acceleraring with a lot of torque. The hand brake is dead, btw. Its the drum at the transfer case. Other than that ... its the paint that is going to give me some challenge to remove the overcoat. If not will do a full resto, if I could save the oem paint I'd still pull it apart and do the chassis and all rubbers but try to keep the oem body. No rust at all only surface rust but even those invisible.
All up.. very very very happy.
I promise you guys an extremly detailed resto here. Its not going to be fast but will get there.

Could you very gently wet-sand the dodgy paint job off? Would be quite tedious but they're only original once. On a slightly different note, what kind of nitwit paints a beige cruiser white?

Agree w you .. this was a very strange person. He bought the troopy from forestry dept. and never drove it just kept in shed. He painted the troopy with roller/brush.. but for what reason (?!). They took it once on a trip which I recon wasnt too succesful. He also put hinges at the ambulance door.. what a barbarian
 
New info: I spoke to the previous (only) owner about the wite paint.
He advised that Forestry SES painted all their emergency units white. So if thats the case I am looking at this cruiser with a brand new oem paint under this white if this was painted just the from the time it was new.
They used safety (chalky) white.
The previous owner "only" patched the surface rust at corners so I'm really excited of removing the white now..
 
Try aircraft remover. Spray a small spot, when it bubbles wipe it off and rinse it. It will probably lift the paint in seconds. The factory paint would take five or 10 minutes
 
I just checked and in Aussie we haven't got this aircraft remover product. Can someone take a photo of the small print of the bottle so I can find same/similar ingredients available here? Is that like an acetone base stuff or more like turps?
 
I found a fast acting paint stripper, which is 87%Methylene Chloride; 13%Methanol but this stuff is a gel to applied by a brush. I'm affraid if I use brush it will eat all paint. It says on the label that it removes several layers at once. Could this be diluted so I can spray it?

The EAR322 Aircraft Remover Got exact ingredients but that is aerosol while the one we have here Diggers is a gel formula. I need to work out how to apply on the body, and I guess I need to use it in small chunks otherwise it might eat all layers before I could rinse it.
 
Just because it is so much surface area to treat. I used the aerosol to clean tons of overspray on all kinds of parts. Rubber, platic, and metal. It did tend to work on layers. The OEM paint was the hardest to remove. I would spray an area and let it sit for a minute or two, then try and wipe it off. I used a toothbrush and water. It will burn your skin and eyes.
 
I have used this product before to clean my carburettor. It just melted all the carbon fouling. The only fully part is when rinsing with water it turns like when poached eggs scatter during cooking..
It was quite hard to remove from the small holes of the carby but it cleaned it amazingly. A local carburettor specialist recommended the methylene-chloride to remove carbon and fuel stain. 100% MC is not available for public so he recommended paint remover.
