Hello all! I was able to recently purchase a 2000 Land Cruiser after selling my triple locked, 97 LX450 because my wife did not dig it at all... Fortunately she likes this one much better. She is actually slowly trying to take it from me. She is trying to be slick about it.

Well I made the purchase 1/25/16 for a decent deal I think. There were a few things that needed attention but I was able to take care of the most of the stuff right away. This is my first 100 series and thanks to this site I was able to accomplish a few things on my own and save some money. Below is a list of what I was able to tackle. Fortunately I have a good friend that has been a Toyota Master Tech for quite a few years and was able to help me with the timing belt and water pump. I was able to use his tools and knowledge for some cash, beer and a healthy amount of Chick Fil-A.

  • Purchased on 1/25/16 with 223,190 miles
  • Cleaned interior
  • Maintenance seemed to be kept up
  • 1/27/16 Fixed a “CLUNK” in rear at 223,415
  • 1/27/16 5 New Toyo Open Country 285/75/16 at 223,433
  • 1/29/16 LED interior lights installed at 223,435
  • 1/29/16 LED license plate lights installed at 223,435
  • 2/1/16 Timing Belt replaced at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 Water pump with tensioners replaced at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 PCV Valve replaced at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 8 Spark plugs replaced at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 Throttle body cleaned at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 Air Filter replaced at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 Mass Air meter cleaned at 223,667
  • 2/1/16 Toyota Thermostat replaced at 223,667 used Toyota Red coolant
  • 2/1/16 Replaced broken floor mat holder Toyota part 223,667
  • 2/2/16 Hood struts replaced at 223,850
  • 2/5/16 Weather Tech floor mats installed 223,997
  • 2/8/16 Batter terminals cleaned, tray cleaned out, painted battery holder black at 224,002
  • 2/8/16 Treated leather with Meguiars leather treatment and protectant at 224,002
  • 2/8/16 LED parking lights installed cool white at 224,002
  • 2/10/16 Replaced heater T's at 224,101
  • 2/12/16 Removed running boards at 224,150
  • 2/12/16 Greased all grease points under the vehicle 224,150
I still need to do the brakes, rotors, bearings and races due to the mileage on it and the fact that I get a slight pulsing when I hit the brakes. It is not too bad now but I want to take care of it while the problem is minor. Any advise or help on what to look for next is welcome. Thanks!

THE LIRA

I'm pretty new to the 100 as well, having picked up a 2000 LX with 219K miles just a couple of months ago. I would recommend a scan/quick read of the articles in the FAQ, and then decide what needs attention in what order.

In my case, while doing the timing belt/water pump replacement thing I found one of the "T"s that branch to feed the front and back interior heaters was ready to crumble (broke in three pieces just trying to remove the hose from one end). Looked like the other one had already been replaced.

My project this weekend will be to replace the remaining fluids I haven't yet touched (brakes, differentials, transfer case).

Thank you LBridges. I will look into the articles and then check my heater T's. I noticed I have a hum in the radio that stays in tune with the engine RPM. Gotta hunt that down too.

Yup, heater tees are a priority. Make sure you use a vise grip on the hose going into the engine so you don't lose any crumbles down there.

Copy that. Thank you VidereStudios.

Replace them with brass t's and never worry about them again.

LBridges - I found 2 heater T's in my area. One at 2 different dealerships.. go figure.

lead62 - I will look into that in the future. I found 2 here in town already. Where did you find the brass ones?

D21FJ60 - Yes! I am looking at the OME kit from Slee as well as an Icon setup and any other set up that I can research before making my decision. Bumpers, winch, and sliders are all on the menu as well.

Acc in Atlanta did mine. Think you can get them on amazon or ebay

Well I have to thank you LBridges. I picked up the T's and brought them home to get to work on the LC. As soon as I touched the clamp and put pressure to release the tension the first T disentegrated. I had a heck of a time getting the plastic pieces out. VidereStudios, thanks for the vice grip tip. It helped. Now that I have accomplished that task I will now hit up some grease points and clean up my mess.

On another note I was thinking about taking off my running boards...

You're welcome, but all the pioneering work was done by others on the board, I just skimmed through all the FAQ articles and began to tackle what I could do (and afford).

I took off my running boards and the OEM roof rack. I like the cleaner look and my wife even positively commented (she drives an FJ Cruiser with sliders and a roof rack).

Removed running boards today.. grease all fittings under the vehicle as well.

What did you determine was the cause of the "clunk" you heard in the rear and how did you correct it? And, did you hear the sound when you began accelerating from a dead stop?

Still like the looks of the classic 16" wheels. Looks great and welcome.

stough77- the clunk was fixed by greasing up the rear fitting on the drive shaft. It took quite a bit of grease. The sound happened as soon as I let off of the brake pedal and was about to press the accelerator.

92LXAZ-thank you I am glad to be here.

Unfortunately for me.. this Cruiser is now gone... I now have a 200 series in Salsa Red Pearl.
