Not limited to 80s, but can anyone explain why drain plug's socket size are smaller as the models get newer? For example, 40s and 60s require a larger socket than 80s or 100s.
 
Newer motors run lower viscosity oil, so it drains out quicker?
 
Lessons learned (by Toyota) maybe; smaller wrench = less torque applied by grease monkeys = less likely to over-tighten drain plugs??
 
Both are valid points! Not sure, just wondered if there was a definitive answer.
