FJ40 Color Code Chart

Here is the color and spec chart for the US-Spec Land Cruiser FJ40. If you see an error please post it here and I will correct the page and graphic ASAP. You can upload a photo of your FJ to the site by clicking on the above graphic, then clicking on the appropriate camera icon next to your color.

I will make updates on the chart within a day of any errors or additions posted. To confirm or add your color to the chart just post a photo or description of your FJ along with the model year (or production date) and the color code. The three-character color code can be found on the production information affixed to the car. It is usually on a metal plate attached to the firewall near the back of the engine compartment.

Another good thread about this topic is here:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/68536-official-color-code-thread-need-pics.html

I started a new thread to make sure the image and chart was the first thing you could see.

031 Cygnus White from my 79.

That is cool as Sh!t chart.

www.coolcruisers.com has some more codes and years, not 100% sure if all are correct....

I just added the Birfield information into the chart as well. This is definitely going to be a long-term project in order to get it accurate!

Well, that doesn't help too much since it doesn't tell me which models that a particular color was available on, but it did let me color in a few of the horizontal indicators on the graph.

Thanks!

Well, I combined three sources that all claimed to be experts.. and based on their individual claims I came up with that initial chart. There were several instances where one expert's information clashed with anothers. If someone can find out for sure I will make changes to the chart.

This page claims that Freeborn Red was from <71-84... not quite sure exactly what that means, but I interpret that as saying it was pre-1971 through 1984. Since it is not clear about HOW pre-1971, I simply started it at 1971.

Thanks Texx, I understand that is a similar color but not sure if that is what toyota used for earlier years. I,m going to the local paint supplier to have a small amount mixed. see how it turns out.

I have a -68 and ive compared it to the red colors found on the net and i am 99% sure that it is muleta red but mine is european so maybe we got that color before US? Otherwise you can start muleta on at least -68.

Nit-picky but it does matter to some....FJ40 was 1961+ not 1958+ common mislabel.

FJ25 1958 to 1960. Colors were different too, find the chips and codes and I'll kiss you.

Capri Blue needs to be pushed back a year to '68. And if anybody finds a color code for the bezel for that year I'll appreciate it!

Wouldn't the bezel and the roof match?

I think so.......for the most part, some bezels are a bit more tan than the roof

Ok... I've been to many paint places and searched for the "SHELL IVORY" T302 color and have had zero luck finding this color. From reading the MANY posts about bezels on mud and elsewhere the general concensus is that:

1. There were a few colors for the pre 71 bezels ranging from a tan to a very white color (and chrome too).

2. T302 Shell Ivory formula is lost to the ages.

3. As LP mentions, the top and bezel colors don't always match.

4. I've obsessed long enough regarding this color and am gonna match up the original roof color and heading out today to get a quart or two and paint the thing and be done with it! (I'll repaint my top as well. I also found out that the clips that retain the tire jacking stuff on the wheel well were also painted this white color.)

Since I can't take the roof to the paint store, I'm gonna go with my wifes choice using a color chip from Lowes and have the shop match it up.

Haha... maybe I will come across these colors someday. I changed the text in the chart to show the different chassis code. What engine was in the FJ25? What the FJ25 imported to the US?

Also, should I give the FJ25 its own chart? It would really be the 1st-generation if it was imported, and the FJ40 would be the 2nd-gen in the US.
