Let me start off by saying I love black on most cars. But my wifes Camry is black and it only looks really good when clean which only lasts about 5 minutes after washing as pollen and other dirt show up more. Other disadvantages with black is it will show off every flaw in the body work (dark colors do this) and they absorb heat in the sun as opposed to lighter colors.

This can vary quite a bit in cost due do what if any body work needs to be done. Type of paint even location can play a role. You might want to check with a couple of local bodyshops.

I went with flat black, a grey stripe down the side and a white roof (masked in about 3-4 inches)

If you have never painted a car/rig before...those two colors are probably harder to do right than any other color. Prep is usually 95% of the paint job and panels must be flat to do it right. We're talking hours of sanding panels to make look right.

black gets really really hot in full sun.... It's a great color if you live in alaska.

there's a gloss black one that runs around here, it's pretty blah looking. you loose the familiar shape of the 60.

more black fj60s

Hey kat here is another link with more pics
http://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wa...ml#post4900510

As for losing the lines you could always highlight them by doing pin stripes or changing your pant color different variations of black. The big thing that I have seen is going for the rhino lined bottom and a sweet shinny black on the top then you would get a primery look on the bottom and still enough places for you to still wax. I think black is great If you like black go black. You could also mess with two tones so in the light the color would change but from far away it would seem as though it was one color, candy colors are cool to just two tones instead of a spectrum of colors. Just some suggests. Wish I was better at photoshop or I would work up some ideas for you.
Peace

In the process of painting mine black. I've been trying out different kinds and I think semi-gloss looks great. The flat black rustoleum is coming out weird. It looks good, but it's powdery for some reason.
