I just finished using rust cap hammerite coating the entire floor of my jeep, (practice and expermenting before using it on the FJ40)
I liked the result, shinny, slick, hard, but not real glassy smooth.
Some of you might want to consider this insead of the black rubber liner crap that is hard to clean. If you are not picky about small brush stokes. But super easy to keep clean. 3 pictures of the result and product, of which I have no affilation with. Thanks.

This is not what you want to use in a restoration, but would be great on a Daily driver or trail.
Hard to brush on because it dries fast. Use only about 2 oz at a
time, because of drying issues, I used a paper expresso cup and a 1 1/2 bush, keep the cup wall wet and your brush at all times.
Working with this stuff is tricky, might want to do a test and practice piece first until you learn to work with it. recoat 2 coat after 20 minutes, by the time you use the 2 oz in the cup the first part of your work will be dry so the 2 coat is ready to go on.
get your first strokes well covered, because you can't back stroke over your work after about 15 seconds. Takes about a week to harden enough to install seats and such. I waited about
10 days. 2 weeks and it is hard as can be. Put your rubber
floor mats down and call it done. It is real shinny and slick so water and dirt just roll off.
I used 2 quarts to cover this jeep floor, and it is only about 18 dollars a quart.
Xylene for clean up

I used the same stuff on my grill, headlight trim and side vents and really like how it turns out. I used the grey color. Looks Good!

Source for rust cap hammerite paint

Ace hardware will carry it
mine hardware carrys only white, silver and black
but other colors are avialable from here
Search: rust cap=

Comes in hammered finish and smooth finish
2 quarts should do jeep or fj40 interior
I used smooth, but brush strokes are still in it.
The spray can is not as durable, as is the case in most paints
Allow at least 1 week or more to harden properly before installing your seats and hardware or use of vehicle.

Answer to your question, yes comes in white

Sounds like you coulda used a spray gun

I use the cans all the time. Anytime I build things for my garage
they get the treatment.

I have had good results..

The only thing I have sprayed with it on my 40 is the back of the side mirror's. six months and counting still looks good.

Wonder if a thinner could be used to allow the brush strokes to level out and have a perfectly smooth surface?

anybody ever rolled it on

rolling it on

I have not tried rollin it on, but I know this stuff melts plastic,
expcept #5 plastic. So foam rollers are out. and would have to be a short nap roller with no fuz much,
Make sure you let it dry at least 10 to 12 days in warm conditions. Takes time to harden, but I am applying this in high 70 degree weather in the florida keys this winter.
Most of you dont have that benefit.

Would help but most Hammerite products need the Hammerite thinner which is expensive and can be hard to get hold of, must be something that is available without a Hammerite name on the can, Cleanpool2 mentioned Xylene for cleaning that might do it, if you try it test a little.

I have sprayed Hammerite (thinned as per Hammerite instructions) and it sprays well.

hammerite

Lets make sure we are all on the same page here
RUST CAP hammerite is different than some of the brands named
hammerite.
hammerite is a type of look of the paint when sprayed and made by different companys.

RUST CAP BAND hammerite is the type of paint that started this thead. So dont overlook that little fact.
and home depot does not sell that brand but some ace hardwares do.

ON the can it says you can thin it but does not recomend it.

I can see your point but as far as I know Hammerite is a registered trade mark, in the UK ICI manufacture the paint, in the US it seems Masterchem make it the same product.

I do agree the "hammered" finish doesn't necessarily mean Hammerite.

Did you have to do any prep to the surface?

surface prep

Here is a picture of the surface prep the black on the front floorboards is por 15. Had to replace some metal, so I coated it with por 15 until I could give the entire interior a coat of the rust cap hammerite, second picture is finsihed product IMG_2365.jpg

update to the orginal thread

Ok
It has been one year and the hammerite is still holding up well
No chips or peeling of the product. And so sign of rust popping
though. I am still happy with the product.

how about now?

How about now? Still holding up well?

We use the Rust Cap from Hammerite on metal fence posts and gates in Texas. It's the only way to fly.

That red is "SMOKING".
