Coverage from 1 Gallon of Rust Bullet
Hi guys.
I need some help in this regard as shipping the stuff here is a killer. Will a gallon of the automotive silver be enough to cover my 42's entire tub, fenders hardtop etc(whole body) ? Anybody done this before and can give some feedback please ![]() __________________ Theo 105 1HZT I/C BJ 42 LX 11/83 - 3b H55F P/S 3 wipers and slidin windas

I have not used Rust Bullet, but I have used Eastwood rust encapsulator which I think is very similar. I can't speak about coverage on a tub, but I used the Eastwood stuff on some trailers I was rebuilding. 1 quart covered the frames of a 16 foor utility trailer and a 20 foot gooseneck. Not sure if that will help or not.

This is probably not too helpful but I bought a gallon to do my frame. I ended up consuming only about a quart and that was with slathering it on heavy with a brush.
Good product IMHO. __________________ Aaron 88 FJ62 - 31x10.5, Scion radio, e85 flex fueler, 4 runner calipers & a bit rusty. My DD commuter car. |

From the Rust Bullet FAQ: "Rust Bullet covers approximately 200 square feet per gallon with a two coat application, depending on type and condition of the surface." I'd say that is pretty accurate, based on my experience here in Lilongwe. BTW, the RB is done on all the panels, frame, etc. except tub and fenders. Those last have 1 coat and are now getting the body filler where needed. We'll be shooting black paint tomorrow and Monday. Once the tub & fender filling is done, they will get a second coat of RB, and then a third light coat. Should be able to start shooting the blue color by next Thursday/Friday, and the silver at the same time. Rims will get painted this weekend as well. I hope to start bolting the chassis back together next week ![]() ![]() Dan __________________ 1978 FJ40, "The Blue Mule", 217,000 miles 1980 Maule M5-235C, "The Blue Beast", 1404 hrs TTAF&E - FJ40 with wings 1982 Mercedes 300D Turbo, "Ol' Red", 380,000 miles 1953 Spousal unit, "The Wife", lifetime warranty, definite keeper (and firmly attached to all of the above) KA3JWW, but I don't have my rig right now |

almost a quart to do this and I sprayed it.
Quarts are better cause once you take the lid off and get some around the edge it will take a chisel to get the lid back off. Some people have suggested to use surran wrap over the top before you put the lid back on. Very good idea. __________________ Marshall UC VP & Token Club Cook Greenville, SC Big Gay 2f Build The Great Cruiser Part Links Thread Buying a Land Cruiser Guide "On second thought, let's go to Chat. No thinning just spray. Gun was a cheapo HVLP gun with 1.6-1.7 tip. I'd suggest to do the first coat with the silver and do the final coat with the black. Though I have used only black on my other projects with one coat and it worked fine.

Only thing with Rust Bullet is be careful if you brush it on... It can produce bubbles in the finish (from curing) even with proper surface prep. It happened to me, and I only found out after through searching of their FAQ.
"Q: 8. Do I need to stir Rust Bullet® before use? A: Yes, Rust Bullet® should be stirred thoroughly prior to use. Avoid whipping air into Rust Bullet®. Shaking the container of Rust Bullet® prior to application may cause the formation of bubbles in the finish of the coating." I didn't shake it, and stirred gently and still got bubbles -- turns out, it's also from out-gassing. But the stuff is damn tough -- I've had to wire-wheel some of it off and it really sticks. Good luck. |
