Spotweld drilling?

Hey. what's the best way to separate layers that have been spot-welded together? Is it possible to take components apart without chiseling and hammering everything out of shape?

Here in the US, there's a tool called a spot weld cutter. It drills out the spot weld, and the surrounding metal. They're available through auto body paint stores.

Spot weld cutter is a great (best) way, but a regular drill bit would do a fine job on a small project like one fender. Work slowly, as it takes time to master just how much to drill to allow separation without drilling through the base layer.

Spot weld cutters are pricey and not worth it IMHO. I have had good luck with the Dewalt Pilot Point drill bits - 16 Piece Pilot Point Drill Bit Set
