Anyone painted there rig Rustoleum Harbor Blue(7722)?

Starting to get to the point of painting parts. Trying to decide on a light blue for the rig. It would be nice just to paint it a pre-mixed color that Rustoleum makes becuase touch up would be easy when I come back from the trail with dents and scratches. But it doesnt look like its going to happen because most of the blue are too dark and this Harbor Blue (7722) might be a little on the bright side.

So if anyone has a picture or has painted there truck this color please post up. I have painted smaller items this color and it looks a little bright. But it might not look to bad with the whole rig painted.

Thanks for the help...
-Al

Hey Lowtide,

If it's too bright you can tone it down by mixing it with another Rusto color (maybe the grey i used). Check my paint thread. I took the sand color and mixed it 3 parts to one part smoke grey and painted my entire rig with it.

here's a photo. one side is the Rusto sand and one side is the mix -

You just use a measuring cup or a graduated mixing cup from the paint store to mix the parts exactly. if you decide to do it that way you can store the mix in mason jars for later when you have to touch it up. Hope this helped.

I was thinking that was the next step.

Thought about it some more and even if someone posted up, there camera and my monitor would have to be calibrated to see the right color anyway. So, I pulled a 80 series hood out I had laying around and painted it with the (7722). Turns out it looks pretty good.

What I did wrong and should have noticed I was painting parts that where red and it caused the red and blue to vibrate against each other...bad move(color theory 101).

Anywho, I started painting parts for the 45 and they are turning out great. I have to order more from HD becuase it seems this is not a color most places stock. Ill try to get some pictures up in the comes days if someone cares to see them...

Til then,
-Al

I thought about it. You gonna use a paint gun, roll it, or rattle can?

I plan to complete the frame off in a couple of years. In the mean time, I am restoring one part at a time, that I replace on the truck right away once completed, which still leaves me a rig to enjoy. Once all the individual parts are done like new, I'll take them all off, and finally do the frame and tub...but in the mean time, I was thinking of getting a few rattle cans just to "clean" her up a little. This being said, you cannot ship rattle cans unless you have a specific transport.

I am still in communication with rustoleum, so we'll see.

BTW...I was planing on painting the '64 it's original Sundune White (light beige) but seeing as this wil eventually become my daughter's Cruiser, she wanted it painted Capri Blue...so Harbor Blue would be the wisest choice right now.

Here's another '64 in the same blue...luckily I like to color

Sure they do, it's under a different name though.

I started rattle canning mine with the same color. I ran into the same problem with Lowe's, they took it off the shelf. I had a case of it ordered from them. I have also found this paint color at Walmart. Are you using a sprayer or rattle can? Thinking about purchasing a quart of it or however they sell it and spraying the larger parts such as the hood and doors. I have not used a spray gun before. Would enjoy seeing pics of the finished product.

Thanks, Steve

My compressor gave up the ghost and I said the hell with it since the truck was already broken down for paint. I just rattle caned the whole thing. I don't have too many pictures but Ill dig up what I got.

I think the most important part what having primer on the truck first. And making sure the cans where cold to give the paint time to level before it dried.

Wow, that looks great. You've helped me decide to do the same thing with my mini next year. I'll probably go with dark blue or black. That's stock suspension
with newer toy wheels, right?
