Painting M416..what to do about "pitting"
Guys I need expertise please. I am painting my M416 Military trailer. It's rusty and once i begin to grind off the surface rust..there is "pitting" in the paint.
Is there a product that I can apply to the trailer that will fill the "crevaces" of the pitting??? I want it smooth before I get it painted. airlaird |

There are a number of body work type products, and it's just like body work, apply, dry, sand, prime, repeat. Check with your local auto body paint store, and it'll depend on the depth of the pitting. If it's not too bad, multiple applications of 2k high build primer with sanding in between may do it.

On trailer, I'd use Zerorust (The Official Zero Rust Web Site), Rust Bullet (Stop Rust with Rust Inhibitor Products, Rust Paint & Coating) etc. and kill two birds w/ one stone. They are a heavy-solids coating which could fully fill light pitting, and encapsulate any remaining rust. I say that, worrying about any left behind rust ruining your time and effort with otherwise normal coatings (prime and paint).
How about bedliner sprayed with a Shutz gun aka undercoat gun? Nothing like a rough base masked by an even rougher topcoat. __________________ ="Are you gonna sit there on that friggin computer all day or what?"The desert dwellin, roadrunner chasin, soooper-genius! Yes I am getting the Rhinoliner done...on the inside only. It's the sides of the trailer that has pitting as well......I'll look into it wiley.
Thanks! airlaird |
