AquaLock

Is anyone here familiar with a Sherwin Williams product called Aqualock. I visited the shop that is going to do the breakdown and rebuild of my new baby. I spoke to the master painter who had just finished a 65 Scout a few minutes earlier and was on a break. He said that once they clean the frame they use the product called Aqualock made by Sherwin Williams to coat the frames. He cracked open a plastic jar of it. Very thick and black he said that it is designed to adhere to bare metal and once on locks water out. It dries with a granular texture and is very, very resistant to chips etc. A buddy has had it on his frame for the last 4 years and thinks its great. In everything I have read here the debate seems to be between powder coat or POR as such I've never heard of this. Anyone ever heard of it or used it and can let me in on their experience. Thanks.

Did you end up using the Aqualock? I've read about it on the SW website before, but never used it.... Wondering how it turned out -- If used.

Thx

I haven't used it yet but since I can't import anything else for a reasonable price I'll use it. I would still like to get more info on it. Can you send me a link to the site where you saw it discussed. Thanks

I did my frame with stratum primer, pinnacle 460 topcoat. Both Diamond Vogel products.

Answering my own question kinda

Based on your mention of the appearance of Aqualock in some forums I re-searched the term with forums. It has been mentioned as a SW product used to paint piers and wharves above the water line I also found this: Insl-x Superior Coating Systems

The tech data listed on the page mentions that this version of it can be used as an undercoat to metal that has had rust sanded off. Given that this is the only game in town...guess I'llhave to just see how it goes.

IIRC Insl-x is a waterborne product which equals a no no on sandblasted steel.
