what kind of spraypaint? You might ge able to use something that will dissolve the spray without effecting the factory paint.
try WD40, but spray it on a rag first and wipe it on somewhere inconspicuous, if you see the factory paint color on the rag, then nevermind.

I think either way you'll end up having to repaint. I'd skip everything and hit it with primer.

I honestly would wet sand it with 1500 grit and buff the vehicle with compound. This may be more effective than trying to remove it with a material that may hurt the original paint. Wet sanding would probably work fantastic. Just remember, once you have wet sanded all teh areas, yoiu need to use a rubbing compound when you buff at low RPM's so you do not burn thru the clear coat. Do not sit in one area when buffing. This is what will cause teh "burn" thru the clear coat.
Overall, wet sanding and buffing is a safe method of clearing out inperfections in the top layer of a clear coat, or getting rid of "orange peel". This methiod will probably resolve all of your issues if someone sprayed some spray paint over top of the original paint. If this is not what you would like to do, I would also suggest using "Dawn" dishwashing liquid. This is actually a great source for degreasing. Believe it or not, it works better than 98% of hand cleaners out there and also takes out alot of "surface spray paint" off of painted panels. This is all contingient on what type of spray paint that was originally used. Alot of Diesel mechanics keep a bottle of "dawn" in their shower because it works so good! P.S. i only know this because my brother is a diesel mechanic...so don't get any ideas!!!!! ![]() Hope this helps. __________________ Do your part and keep America clean, keep Jeeps on pavement! ) , also a great remover for overspray, but again can dull clear coat. Acetone evaporates REALLY fast. One more suggestion is using goof off. All of the aforementioned products are a little labor intensive, but they do work. On a side note, for the hell of it. Last fall, I mixed some cupran special(paint remover for hands) with some hot water, and used a scrubby tool on the hood of my aerial truck. The results were awesome, and it DID NOT DULL CLEAR COTE. __________________ 04/75 fj40 slowly under resto...... build thread http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/99015-04-75-frame-off.html '94 FZJ80 (DJ81) with 14k gold emblems(wifes) '06 Tundra/Work Truck Model Iforce V-8 ( paint/estimating rig) |
