Paint Rejuvenation
So I have finally found some time to work on the Olifant. I will be painting her at some point this year, but for the time being I want to clean and buff/ protect the existing paint. There is some oxidation, etc. What would be the best route to go? I have a 6" orbital to work with. Should I start with rubbing compound, or a polish at first? Would I benefit by using a clay polish over the others on the market?
For referonce Olifant is a 147 Silver 1987 FJ 60. __________________ 1987 FJ 60 HD OME ready for rehab 1973 Pig recently sold for parts 2007 Suburban LT3 Z71 www.landworksva.com |

if there is some oxidation on the roof in the middle I would try up there first. That way it's not really in a visible area if you cause a problem.
I would try wetsanding with 1500 and 2000 grit paper. That's after you use a heavy degreasing wash to ensure there is no wax on there. Then use a rubbing compound followed by a polishing compound and a wax. __________________ -84 BJ60, Finally on the FN road! -91 FJ80, wife's ride Iron Butt award winner of the Cruise Moab 08 ! |

If you don't know your way around a buffer, just say no. Elbow grease and meguiar's cleaner/wax is your best solution. Too easy to burn thru the paint and get swirl marks.
