damn vandal

My beloved 1994 fj80 with 70k in nearly pristine condition was targeted by a vandal last weekend. Spray paint all over (which I can get off) and keyed on all panels. It is going to need a complete repaint. Anybody have any HIGH recommendations in Virginia/Maryland/NC areas. I am not looking for a body shop who wants to get it done and get their money. I am looking for something more. If they can produce, I have a second I would like to paint as well. No offense if I offend any painters out here, but I have not yet got a paint job I have liked. That is probably because they are at busy shops were it is all bottom line.

Sorry to hear about the vandals man, that sucks. Can't help you on a reference, but a good shop is worth the wait. Check some hot rod clubs in your area.

Maybe post on craigslist locally and see if there's a paint guy who needs extra cash. Might save some $$

If $$ is no object, due to an insurance claim etc., why not take it to a dealership that has an on site collision repair center? Guaranteed to be one of the priciest jobs but it would probably be easier to deal with them if you had to rectify any issues you were unsatisfied with post-paint IMHO.

If there's one thing EVERY painter has heard, it's "if you give me a good price/good job on this one, I have another one I want you to paint". Seriously, that's gonna throw you in reverse, it's such an old hack line. Check out shops, look at their work. Do not consider the owner's vehicle, or one that belongs to one of the employees. Check references and look at vehicles that were recently painted for customers. Expect to pay alot of money for a near perfect job.

You also have to remember that no paint job is going to be perfect. Factory paint jobs have flaws. If you look long enough you will always find dust in the paint, waves in the panels, etc. If you are looking for show car quality you will indeed pay serious cash, especially if its red. And sorry for your bad luck. Ih8vandals.
