How much would you pay for this winch?

I have the oppurtunity to pick up a vintage 70's Warn M8000 winch with modern Warn controls, updated solenoid pack and new cable/winch.

I think it'd be the dog's danglies on my 40, but I'm a newb when it comes to winches. What would you pay?

thats a older late 60's bellview.

im not so sure about the parts availability, or if the motor mounts match an 8274. i wouldnt get it unless i answered that question.

i paid 500 for my 8274 and its the modern freespool. i think id hold out for one of those.

a dogs dangles would be a capstan mount.

Are you nuts? If it was a Warn 8274, then yes.

The one in the pics has had a soleniod box added. Parts for that one are NLA.

FJ40forlife has had one in the for sale section for over a month for $90.

sounds like FJ40forlife under sold that one

i didnt realize it was a bell ....just gave a quick ans ....250+ is a more fair price for a bell...they usually go for 1/2 an 8274

either way ...sounds like he was quite happy

You are a little behind the times the 8274-50 new is retail $1,575.00 and can be found online for $1,457.99

Just to let you know we at Iron Pig Offroad are Red label Warn dealer and we were shocked with the price increase earlier this year.

So this one is really an early 8274 model. Or did Strangelove incorrectly call this an 8000?

Neither and both.

The winch shown is a Bellview. It has the funky external brake with lever etc. Unless you like vintage gear, I'd stay away. They work fine, but if I remember it's power in and out only. It isn't an 8274, but clearly the best features of the Bellview were copied by Warn for the 8274. I think Bellview used to be it's own company, and Warn bought them long ago.

An 8274 is rated for 8000 pounds, but most agree it pulls a bit harder-up to 11000 pounds. The gear drive is unique and extremely durable. Their second biggest advantage after durability is speed. Even the old ones can rewind cable like nothing else.

Just me but I'd pass on the bellview, only because an 8274 still has good parts availability and old ones can be easily rebuilt. I've seen 8274s in working condition for $400-$500, and broken but complet ones for $250. That's what I'd hold out for. My 8274 was new in 1991 and still works like new after a rehab a few years ago.

Thanks for all of the insight. I do like the idea of a winch of the same period for my Cruiser, but if there are no parts for it, maybe I'll pass. One thing I don't need is a large paperweight on the fron bumper.

the one pictured is a belview. id still take that over the m8000 for "use". but the lack of parts means you buy at your own risk. the one noted for "sale" is an 8274. thats a good price. the mewer ones have bigger HP motor, which will bolt on to newer one if you want it. i dont see the need to spend 250 bucks unless the current motor shits the bed.
