looking for a few things
hey guys, im looking for a couple of things before the CMCC. I need a new gas cap as mine broke pulling my bed off, a hi-lift jack, and a cb radio. If any of you have any of this or can tell me where i should get it that would be great. I dont know the first thing about cb radios so if someone could direct me in the right direction that would be good, just looking for something to work for the trail runs. thanks!

Chris, Radio Shack has inexpenzive radios.... tractor supply has highlift style farm jacks and straps....
a hand held CB would work fine too BTW... __________________ Jeffrey Save Tellico! TreadLightly BlueRibbon Coalition United Four Wheel Drive TLCA.org ALCA- Fledgling Cruiser group of eastern PA |

As far as the CB goes, they are all pretty good now-a-days. Especially considering the short distances needed for trail runs. Pick one up at Radio Shack or Walmart. Midland, Cobra and Uniden are some of the most common (popular) brands. The antenna is the most important part of the system. K40, Wilson and Firestick are probably the most popular. A good antenna will make a bad radio better, and a cheap antenna will make the best radio worthless. A low SWR is what you're looking for.
You'll want to run the CB power leads directly to the battery (this will help reduce electrical noise from the vehicle) and the antenna needs to be well grounded to the body. I can bring a meter along to fine tune the SWR's if you'd like. __________________ Bill Somerset, PA USA 2007 FJ Cruiser 1966 FJ40 (Website Link:New Project) (on Mud: updated more often) Proud member of ALCA! |

Would this hand held one work? what would be the down sides to getting a hand held vs. one mounted in the truck? __________________ Chris |

For the runs at Rausch, it should work fine.

I have a 48" hi-lift and it's all I've needed so far. The wide base plate attachment is nice for snow and mud (helps keep the jack from sinking), but I've never needed it at Rausch.
