Evil Thoughts.....

I am having some evil thoughts and they deal with parting out / selling my truck and upgrading to a newer 80.

The reason that I think I am having these evil thoughts is that I still have a ways to go in order to complete the restoration on my 80.

The following items still need to be addressed:

Paint-The whole truck
Windshield needs to be replaced
My CDL - Locker fiasco
2 Front seats need to be replaced
2 Head lights need to be replaced
Shaky DS mirror

Most of the remaining issues are DIY items, I just feel like I am never to get through this event.

I am on the edge and need to be talked back down.

Sit down and take a breath. You can get thru this. The LCA (Land Cruiser Anonymous) has meetings in every major city almost nightly. Call another 80 member to sponsor you. If you just admit you have a problem, you can begin to get better. By the way, the LCA has a 0% success rate so there's no way you'll get better, an thus, you'll get back into wrenching on your current project.
Hope this helps.
LCA Member #9856584... and still trying to build my 40...
Good luck.

That is a relatively short punch out list.... I say you just take one small project, complete it... and then repeat : )

After I had a few beers and came back to the list, I would have to agree with your assesment. The rig is close to complete, no need to go down another unknown road just because I think it would be a better course.

Things get tough, and then you have to step back and take a good look at what you have, I saw something that caught my eye and I really believed that if I sold my rig, my restoration saga would come to an end. In reality, it probably would just begin again and then I would be spending more money on making the new truck right.

Soooo, we will keep what we have and finish it up hopefully sometime in the near future (Nov).

Hah! This is great! I just went through the same conundrum but I didn't post it up here. I made a list of everything I've done the to the truck in the past year (plus money spent) versus what I want to do to it yet, versus how much longer I have to pay on it. . . . and when I was done, it made more sense to keep the 80. So, it went to the body shop for rust rehab, new windshield, new roof paint, and buff job. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow or Wenesday. When in doubt, sink more money in it.

Here's the short list:

Bought the truck with OME lift installed, less than 1 year on the truck when purchased. Had 864 springs in the rear, which I swapped for 863 springs in January 2007, right after purchase. OME Heavy lift--850 and 863 springs, N74 shocks, OME steering stabilizer. BFG AT KO 285/75 R16 tires on stock wheels.

All mods/service listed performed between January 2007 and present, and in the past 10,000 miles.

All parts Toyota OEM unless otherwise noted.

Suspension/Drivetrain:
--Slee front sway bar drop blocks
--Landtank caster correction plates to bring caster back to ~+3*
--New u-joints in front and rear driveshafts
--New slip-joint dustcover on front driveshaft
--Replaced front diff pinion oil seal
--Front axle service, new trunion and wheel bearings, axle, hub, and knuckle seals, with synthetic greases, Feb. 07
--Rear axle service, left side March 07, right side March 08, synthetic grease.
--New rotors on all 4 corners, 100-series pads up front, new pads on rear.
--Diff and TC case fluids replaced with Mobil 1 synthetic
--Transmission fluid flush June 07
--Coolant flush and fill, June 07
--New T-stat, o-ring, and most coolant hoses, June 07
--PHH-ectomy, June 07
--Blue-hub fan clutch, June 07
--New belts, June 07
--Plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor, and starter contacts, May 07
--O2 Sensors, May 07
--CDL switch installed (no Pin7 Mod)
--New Battery (Napa something)
--New stainless steel down-pipe fabricated from exhaust manifold to just below “Y” junction, January 08
--Throttle body removed and cleaned. January 08
--Tie Rod Ends and Relay Rod Ends replaced, January 08

Body/Interior Mods, etc.
--ARB winch bull-bar up front, no winch on truck
--Slee Step Sliders
--Hella 500 driving lights wired to Slee Auxiliary light harness to come on with highbeams, separate kill switch on dash
--Slee Headlight Harness
--John Deere HIR low beam bulbs
--New Drawtite tow hitch installed with trailer plug mounted in rear bumper
--Wheels sandblasted and powdercoated Anthracite (dark metallic grey)
--George’s LED dome and map lights
--Superbright LED doorlights
--Sony Xplod speakers installed in front (6 ¼”) and rear doors (5 ½”)
--Homebrew rear cargo storage box, half width, one drawer
--New Driver’s door gasket
--J-Moose inspired aluminum roof rack, mounts to Yakima towers and crossbars
--CB mounted to rear of center console, wired for power and no antenna yet.
--Almighty Official OEM Cupholder
--Two 12-volt lighter outlets on back of center console, two more in cargo area on passenger side, fuse panel mounted underneath passenger front seat

Included:
--3rd row seats and seat belts
--Factory floormats
--All four center caps for wheels
--Electronic copy of FSM
--WabFab Slider Adapter for HiLift jack (cradles the Slee slider tube nicely)

I went so far as to write up the ad to sell it and then bagged the idea.

However . . . if you decide to ditch your truck, I want the hood.

Brett

I think your rig could be a PA ROTW!
