1991 Nissan Maxima possible purchase

Hey guys, gas is getting so high the fj40 is seeing it's last days as my dd unfortunately. Now i know v6 isn't a great gas saver but it get 26 highway and 19 city. Thats great compared to my 8mpgs.

Specs:
1991 Nissan Maxima
Reman auto tranny just put in with 30k
372,xxx miles (yea alot i know)
All power options
sunroof
white with burgundy interior
interior is flawless with all leather
nice cd player
speedometer and tach currently don't work

Engine: RUNS LIKE A TOP, the car belongs to a buddy of mine and he wanted me to look at it cause it's been sitting for 3 months cause it wouldn't turn over. It turned out to be a dead battery. Put the cables on it and it fired up after the engine turned twice. Runs smooth, drives great. Tranny shifts ok. AC is ICE COLD. Shocks are shot but i don't mind. All highway miles, guy used to drive from birmingham to atlanta everyday for work (120 miles one way). Oil is changed every 3k religiously.

$500 cash, what do yall think

Yea my parents said the same thing about checking with insurance.

A few things i found out, it is not the original engine, engine was replaced at 200,000, not because it had problems, but becuase the owner drove it 250+ miles 5 days a week for work and just did it as preventitive maintenance. Either way, i drove it today, drives great, has a bit of a low idle, brakes are great, e brake works, shifts flawlessly, ac cold, steering smooth without vibes, shocks are pretty shot. Also he said he can never fill the tank all the way up cause it drips fuel from the side of the tank, i'm thinking a cracked hose??? It even has a new battery, starter, and alternator with life time warranty. Hoses in great shape. Only thing that bothers me is the low idle, don't know how to turn it up. I think i may buy it.

go with a 1993 to 1996 civic, they get like 41mpg even some highbrids don't get that... They can be pricey though

if not an early 90's corlla with a 5 speed, take off the reinator box and they freakin go, not quite a good on gas 35mpg or so

Sentra's are ok too

I would stay away from V engines... just my opinion

I've been looking for a honda for about 6 months now, and you can't find one in near this condition for less than 2500, i know they get way better mpgs, but from what ive researched if the maxima is tweaked a little it can get up to 32 highway. It's too good of a deal to turn down IMHO. I'm probably gonna pick it up monday.

Do it! That's what I paid for my lil Honda, totally worth it. Shocks can't cost too much for it, and you can still wheel the 40.
