Matrix oil change reset

Hey all.

Wife has a new Matrix...She has had it about 6mos.

She insists on having the dealer do the oil changes cause' it is a "New" car. I am hounding her to let me do it, cheaper.

So issue is, how do I reset the computer to stop reading that it needs service, (on dash). It does this when it needs a change of oil.

I believe there is a procedure in the Owner's Manual that tells you how to reset it. At least there is for my Mom's new Lexus.

Should be in the owners manual. Rav4 is: key off, hold down the odometer reset, turn ignition to run, it counts down five seconds and resets.

Thanks guys...

I initially thought to look in the manual and had no doubt it would be there, but last night I said to my wife, "hey I will ask on Mud, I bet they will know".

I am always remarking to her how there is sooo much info and knowledge here.

I have changed the oil in our Matrix since it was new in '04. Got it down to a science now, can do it from start to finish in 10 minutes.

Also, we run 5w-30 full synthetic, and our gas mileage is up to 36 on the highway. 5000 miles between changes.

The 04s don't tell you when to change oil, so I can't be of any help on resetting the light, sorry.

Interesting, that must be a standard trans. right? That is what we have and it gets maybe 32-34, I forget now...Hmmm, may have to try synthetic.

Nope, automatic. Mileage jumped up by 4mpg with the thinner oil.

This is the same way that I reset my wife's 06 Matrix. We also get 32-34 mixed 70% highway, 30% in-town with the automatic.

You guys like those Matrii? or is it Matrices.. anyway I'm looking to pick up a commuter vehicle to save on gas, have been poking around and never really considered a Matrix until I saw this thread, but looks like mileage is as good as just about anything else out there.. better car than the Yaris? Honda Fit? Scion Xa?

Yes I really do like it....

I have not owned or driven the others so I guess I cannot compare.

If you guys like the current Matrix, wait til you see the 2009 model. Sportier on the outside and smoother and cleaner on the inside. We're building our first trial cars this week.

Thanks!

We had my oil changed in my 2005 Matrix. They didn't reset it. We took it back and they claimed it was "too new" for them to know how to do it!!! The car is almost paid off! How can it be too new?

I love the Matrix. It's really easy to get the stroller in and out and to get my son in and out of his carseat. My only problem will be if we have a second and positioning the rearfacing carseat. Oh well, we'll probably be buying a van with number 2 anyways (replacing our 99 Taurus wagon).

Dealer had about a dozen on the lot when we purchased...all auto. Had to order in the manual.

Funny how many Mudders have a Matrix too. Bought mine (XR 2 WD) new in '05 and it's been a great car (at least for my 2 mi commute). A real fuel sipper on hwys and fwys, too. LA-Phoenix on one tank isn't unthinkable. I was tempted to go for some European steel but the Volvo V50's trunk (it's a wagon!) is 1/3 smaller and most other compacts have less legroom in the rear. My only complaint is the vulnerability of door panels in parking lots (no shielding whatsoever). I don't know how the '09 performs but the 2.4 liter might be a bit overkill.
