Mechanic/Shop in Tulsa?
Guys,
I am looking for a trustworthy mechanic in the Tulsa area to do some work on my 72 FJ40.
Any recommendations? Places to avoid? I have been told to go to Harmon and to avoid Sams... Seem about right or no?
Regards,
Jonny

Harmons is good, honest place.
I've dealt with them for many years (34 if you include the years his father owned the place).
Davids knowledge is incredible and I TRUST his word.
Prices are fair too.
It's hit and miss with Sams.
I've used them in the past but I can't recommend them.

Thank you for your response. I actually spoke with Harmon and they told me they generally only do driveshafts etc., and didn't do carburetors or brakes or anything. Thought that was kind of weird but ok...
So I guess now I have to do everything myself as there doesn't seem to be a single shop in Tulsa interested on working on a 40...

I have dealt with Superwrench in tulsa for my Honda. I have seen one 40 sitting on a lift in there once. They did good work on my Hondas but can't vouch for the work they do on a 40. I know one mechanic is into mid 70's Chevys (Ed, I think) and has been there a long time.
The managers used to work at Crow Brothers Toyota before it was sold and became the Riverside Toyota corporate giant owned by Sonic Automotive.
You might give them a try if you don't want to do it yourself.

Wow, that surprises me!
They must have lost one of their key mechanics.
If I can think of anyone else, I'll mention them.
I do 99% of my own work and have been out of the loop for a while.

Do you know much about the drum to disc brake conversion? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. I am in S. Tulsa.

GCC has an informal get together the 1st Thursday of each month (Oct 2) at Joe Momma's pizza - HWY 169 & 61st in the Sports Complex.
The next official meeting is Sat Oct 18 at Disney, OK. We have our annual picnic that day. Some guys will be camping all weekend.
