Well, 10 hours later on satruday and sunday and the front end is completely rebuilt, new steering ends and all new bearings, Kind of a waste as the bearing grease in the knuckles was still red, no leaks and all the bearings looked good, Oh well, now I know, before I was guessing, rear end will start in a few days, My back hurts from leaning over all day saturday and sunday.

Nice work....Instead of doing anything to my 40 I cut the tree down that came within 1 foot and 10 minutes of crushing it.

Taco,
A 1/4" spacer is required for sufficient balance weight clearance. I don't think caliper grinding is required when running stock calipers. I had to grind the schnockers out of the big finned 1990 'runner calipers on my '60.

10-4 Jim, still trying to stay away from spacers....I would rather spend 100 bucks with you towards a carb rebuild. I wish I could get it before Harlan, my gas mileage is extemely crappy.

Gents,

Looks like I'm out on this ride. Just not enough $$$ to put fuel in the truck for this and CMCC in July. Heck, I just put $124 in diesel in the truck to commute for the week. Gonna have to look into the biodiesel deal a little more closely now.

I'll see if I can make the TTORA Takeover...but don't hold your breath.

Phaedrus, you're still welcome to use the tires. I'd be happy to meet you in Cincinnati to swap them over. If I get to CBus before the ride I can leave them with Jim C. or meet you somewhere near there. Details as things work out.

My brother and one of his pals with a Yota or Sammy are looking at joining you folks in Harlan. When I hear a firm commitment from them I'll pass the word.

Come awn Nick...Throw some junk on ebay to pay for gas. Or come tow my 40 and we'll split gas or most of it.
You can drop the tires off at my house if you want to. You can bring the tow dolly too.

Apply all the pressure you want. There still aren't enough $$$ in my pocket to put fuel in the truck to go wheeling. I'm not happy about it but that's the way it is.

I am starting the rear axle tonight, hope to have it wrapped up and lockrite installed by saturday, Then I can road test and take it to the quarry around the corner for some testing. Is anyone else going in on thursday or are all of you in on friday through sunday only? Still wondering if I need to reserve a campsite.
Dave

A little bit more today,
Completed front end alignment, made a little front license bracket, and fabbed up a high lift mount for the passenger side running board. Tested the lockrite at the local quarry, didn't even need to engage 4WD. I am getting stoked.

Man, you're on top of it. I ordered some wheels yesterday, they should be here this week. I'm gonna change the oil, hook up my cb again and get my unorganized tools together and hope for the best. I put about 200 miles on the 40 last week and it seem to be running pretty good.

I've recruited a co-pilot.
My plan is to leave work at 3pm, pick him up and head to Harlan, after 2 or 3 stops for gas.

My plan is to roll out of Auburn about 8 or 9 am on thursday, So where the hell are we camping again?
Does anyone have a suggestion of a campground, I will volunteer to reserve a site if we decide on one.
Dave

Dave,

Still interested in using my Swampers? I can drop them at Marty's this Friday if so (I'm gonna be "in Marty's neighborhood"). Marty, you mentioned the tow dolly, did you want to borrow it? I can bring that too if you like. Probably need to bring some stock sized tires too as yer new meats ain't gonna fit the dolly straps. Let me know; I gotta get everything loaded tonight.

Nick, thanks for the dolly offer. I'm just gonna drive it. i'm still waiting on my new wheels to show up. I'll be gone all weekend but you know where I live. If Dave wants to borrow the tires you can just roll them back by the garage. Jenny might be home during the day in the afternoon so I can warn her if you're coming.
Dave I can meet you at my house Thursday during the day to pick them up if you want. You should hit cincy around 1 and I can swing home at lunch.

Nick....throw some shit on ebay for some gas money and come wheel with us.

I appreciate the offer,
I will run the BFG's this trip and feel out the lockrite. It is weird to drive with and I am going to take it to work tomorrow and try to get some freeway time on it.

The good news is the Top is off and the bikini top has taken its place....

Dave
