Checking in from the North

Hello Ohioans.

Yep Im still alive.

Just havent been to home office in a while. Work is fine, keeping me busy, Wore out the first company car in 23 months, 89,000 miles.

Pimping a new ride at this time.

The cruiser fired up last week for the first time in about 4 months. Must be cause someone who will remain nameless fiddled with the carb

Few updates, I have a now 1 year old daughter and a 2.5 year old.
So its me and the dog who is "fixed" so I guess he only counts for half a dude.

I fabbed up some hard half doors from a spare set. Turned out pretty well.
Got a full cage installed, 5 points.
8274 is hooked up and kind of sick, might be time for a new motor.
Got a new OEM gas tank after the last 3 had holes.....
Got some nice 31 inch highway rollers from Jim and got them mounted up. Just incase I ever tow this somewhere.

I hope to put on more that 15 miles this year.
Might have a locker in the works.

Other than that all is well. Hope everyone is doing good, Nick if your lurking happy late new year.

Off to Chicago tomorrow for a meeting. I'll post up the next time I swing through I still owe several of you some suds.

Warren

Nice to see you on here.
I thought you were selling the short bus??
It was tempting, With a family of 3 that would make a sweet camper/40 hauler. Just no funds as of current.

Hey Warren,

Glad to hear all is going well. Make a hole in your schedule and start stashing gas money for CMCC this year in PA. You gotta use the short bus at least ONCE fer what you bought it for!

yeah I know, if someone came up to me with 2K the bus would be sold or 1800 if they mentioned mud. nothing wrong with it, just tired of looking at it and not using it once in the past year for its intended purpose. See the cruiser sleeps in the garage so its out of sight out of mind.

Anyhow, yes, I would love to get to the CMCC this year. The family outing is on the same weekend 300 miles in the wrong direction, There may be some snags in the works with them so it looks better than last year.
1200 miles in an untested bus is a different story....

I did manage to get the hitch hooked up though. Probably 500 bucks just for gas to get there and back.

I might, might be able to borrow my brothers suburban and trailer, Thats only 230 miles in the wrong direction. but at least that is a road worthy hauler.

Any thoughts on a V6 4runner and tow dolly making that kind of a trip?? Yeah I think that would be a tall order too.

Did you have to wear this pretty seat harness?

Warren,

Bad idea on the 4Runner/dolly combo. Runner is too light to tow a Cruiser like that for that many miles. Better the "untested" short bus. You need to drive that thing around on weekends to build a little trust. I'd say drive it to work but given yer job a short bus isn't the best tool there either! Oh, I know ALL ABOUT the cost of fuel: diesel will be over $4/gallon by then. Can't wait to see the fuel bill towing my heavy gooseneck and Cruiser 1300 miles to PA and back.

You could test the short bus by bringin the Cruiser to Badlands March 22 ya know! All the best stories come from hitting the road in an untested vehicle. I can tell ya some good ones in well tested vehicles too. Like the time I towed a 40 from Jim's emporium to some dude's place in MI. Wind blowin so hard my cube van couldn't go faster than 45 on the way up....

Well I have tested it some around town. It does not want to do over 55 on the freeway. I think it was doing 60 when I first bought it but that was also when the muffler fell off and my wife ran it over

It runs pretty cool in the summer, I have started to smell some burning oil when at hi speed. I did a recent oil change and just checked it a week or so ago. The level is still up. The guage on the inside tends to read a bit low when driving though. I keep an extra 5 quarts on hand.

Since the trans has like 200 miles on a full rebuild I am not worried about that in the least. all new front brakes so it stops pretty good, new front shocks, new muffler. I suppose the worst thing that could happen is blowing the engine or, blowing a tire, since I dont have an 8 lugger spare.

The badlands might be an idea only 5 hours away, but 12 days is not much time to find a tow dolly. Do they have a scrap yard close if I have to liquidate? Ill bring the title with me.

You could rent a dolly from UHaul or a local trailer place too. I rented a nice car hauler with brakes from a local trailer place to bring a forktruck home...pretty cheap too even compared to UHaul. I'd sell you my dolly but I find it's too handy to have around for local moves. That and dead cars are a royal PITA to get up on the gooseneck deck!

I'm sure a scrap yard could be found if needed. But I think if you just take it easy you'll be fine. You probably don't really want to go much faster than 55 right away anyhow. Better mileage that way too.
