Markleeville camping
Anyone recommend a nice camp spot near the river in or around the Markleeville area.
Ive been googling it, and come up with the same spots.
Carson River resort is BOOKED and would actually be ideal.
Were going with the family up this weekend. I know well find SOME PLACE, but Id like to have a better idea of little out of the way spots that I might want to explore.
Thanks,
Keith

Hey Keith,
Did you look at Turtle Rock Park? That's where I parked my rig before Maureen and I pinched her tire on the Deer Valley Run.
It's a county park with RV and tent sites. Kinda small, but I think it's an underused area. Fees are pretty cheap too. And they have fire pits as well.

had a thought. The stretch of road between Markleeville and the turn to Barney Riely has a lot of side roads where camping is allowed right on the river. The trick will be finding a spot on Saturday.

That is just what I would do. We'll be up that way backpacking up Silver King creek...

Yeah, well be sort of in on the game late coming in on Sat AM. Well check South of Markleeville heading UP towards Deer Valley/ Hermit Valley FIRST THING and see what we can come up with.
I was trying to recall as well that there were some spots BEFORE the Barney Riley turn off to camp.
This should be fun, and interesting. Im not used to going with 3 gals (2 of which are rookie campers), 2 toddlers and 1 baby. Im pretty excited to get the boys fishing, as theyve never been. I hope we catch something for them. I remember going fishing with my dad as a kid....it kinda sucked if you didnt catch anything. If you werent catching anything, you were employing other resources to get into trouble with....then dad was pissed and you were going home.
Im hoping we can find a place with some pits. Theyre really excited about the whole camp fire smores and such.
Ill post up when I get back with some pics.

If you are into a little more travel, then try Highland Lakes. Its on the other side of Ebbetts, but its worth the drive. There are 2 little lakes up there and its the head waters of the Moke. The sunsets are awesome and the fishing is pretty good. The fish are small but they are plentiful. The camp ground is run by the USFS and there might be 20 or so spots. There are pit toilets and a manual pump to get water for washing dishes and the such. I don't ever drink it so I don't know about that. I always haul water for drinking. There is also camping on the river on the way in. Lots of good spots. Have fun.

Thanks for the tip.
Were gonna be heading out EARLY to try and procure a spot SOMEWHERE.
Sounds like a nice place to consider.
Right now, were planning on grabbing the best place we can find as SOON AS POSSIBLE. We dont wanna waste the whole day seeking the "holy Grail", so to speak. Head up, grab a spot, set up and RELAX.

Just got back!
Had a blast, though it was a 3 ring circus with the WHOLE family.
We stayed at wolf creek above the ebbits pass turn off. GREAT little site. There were only 3 or 4 other groups there, so there wasnt too much in the way of the crowds.
Had a sort of...less than polite interaction with a rather RUDE California lady regarding a fishing/ camp spot on the river...Her husband was very nice and friendly though.
The boys caught their FIRST fish...like MAYBE 4 in trout caught with a transformers pole with a worm, but they were excited as could be about the whole thing.
Great time all in all.
