Any idea of Departing time? Duration of the run?

I'm making some inquiries with my girlfriend. Her rig is much better suited for Deer Valley.

OK, she's up for it. She has to come up from the Sacramento area, though.

Maybe I can get her to roll up Friday night.

Chicago, call me on my cell: 775-224-7957.

I still have to check with the wife, but it shouldnt be a problem.
I would like to have at least one other rig to go besides us.
The length of the run depends on us and how long it takes to get over the obstacles, and how much traffic is up there.
I suspect there might be some traffic as its a weekend and mid summer and its a FAWKING awesome little trail.
Lets see if anyone else is up for this.

K

So far, Maureen and I are in as well. We'll meet you at Woodfords between 8:30-9 a.m. We'll be in Mo's rig, a silver FJC, ARB bumper, lifted, rocking 33s, and a hula pig on the dash. Can't miss the license plate: Muddygrl.

She has a CB, but you have HAM, correct? I'll charge up my Motorolas. She's still checking with anyone she knows who may tag along.

Oh, we'll be staying at my friends' place near Johnson Lane. Be much easier to get to Woodfords that early.

Hey Chicago,

We're still planning to do this run, only Maureen is coming up from Sacramento Saturday morning. She's planning to be at Woodfords between 8:30-9 a.m. I'll be at Woodfords with my rig, but we're going to park it at Turtle Rock park.

If the rainstorms go away, we may camp out somewhere nearby after Deer Valley.

Maureen is bringing another driver/rig from Sacramento along with her. She's leaving Sac at 6 a.m., probably top off her gas tank in Meyers, then drop down to 88 from from there.

She'll be @ Woodfords by 9 a.m.

It happened!
Heres my little write up...

It was a great day.
Attendees were:

Rusty and Mrs. Rusty
Keith S and Maureen driving her nicely build FJ crusier
Chicago

Unfortunately, Maureen sliced her DS sidwall JUST BEFORE the first obstacle and was unable to run the trail. That was a bummer to have had happen to her as she had never run Deer Valley before and seemed excited to do so. We backed her up and put on her spare and off they went.

The rest of the day was un eventful except for some GREAT weather, great wheeling and good company.
There was hardly any traffic on the trail which I was extremely surprised about. We passed 3 small groups coming in the opposite direction, and caught up to a group of 5 or 6 jeeps right at the end of the trail.
I thought that the trail was tamer than it had been in recent years, but Rusty had thought the opposite.

The only other carnage to note was Rusty's 2M antenna, but he is of the opinion that he can save it.

That is a GREAT little trail. Its tame enough to be fun and relaxing, but challenging enough that it keeps you interested and ON YOUR TOES. I really enjoy the forrest scenery back there as well.

Thanks to Mo and Keith S, Rusty and for coming. I love that run, and could not have done it without you guyz....just because...well, Im scared to run it alone.

K

Well, we found out why you don't run trails alone. Mo is going back to Sacramento today to swap out some wheels and tires. She was really bummed about that tire blowout, and is very grateful for Keith and Dan's help in getting that wheel off. She's now convinced she's switching to steelies as soon as she can find a set.

She's also sworn she's coming back to run Deer Valley as soon as she can.

Thanks again for the help,

Keith S.

Yeah... those rims LOOKED nice, but for practicality for wheelin...NOT GOOD!
Im thinking those are for the pavement pounders.
No worries about the help. That is one of the side effects of wheeling, and I will always try to help where I can, cuz MANY have come to my aid when needed. Could have been a lot worse. Fortunately it was BEFORE the obstacle, and not 3/4's of the way INTO the obstacle. That rim definately wouldnt have faired so well trying to back OUT of that. Glad you guyz at least came.
4wheel parts has always had great deal on rims and tires IMO. Just a thought.

We were there

We had a blast.

Maureen blowing a tire before the first obstacle was a drag, we felt really bad for her and Keith S. Like Keith said it was no big deal helping her out compared to the amount of time others have put in helping me out on the trail.

took a bunch of pictures but I haven't had time to even pull the SD card from the camera since we got home. Maybe tomorrow.

The antenna was no surprise, except that it lasted longer than I had expected it would. I can fix it so no large deal there. I ordered a replacement last night that should survive better.

By 'backed her up' Keith means he man handled those lugs and pretty much did the swap for me!

Thanks, guys, for helping my weak butt out. I was TRULY bummed for having to back out at all but 20 feet into the trail?? Ugh.

We need to get back out there ASAP!

Me and Dan - our best sides?

If you could see through the trees to the left of the shot, there's a family camping there. Yeah, that's the staging area right behind us. Sheesh...

Yeah, me too! I thought I was just in some serious need of weight training but when I saw that YOU had trouble I felt better about my 'guns'. LOL

That 'clink' noise made me think I'd hit my ARB bumper. When you said you thought it was my ARB that's what I thought you meant but you meant my locker line! That would have truly been a bummer. I didn't even have the lockers engaged nor was the compressor on.

All's well that ends well and I've found some real trail buds in you and Dan.

I also found that I need to remember "Righty tighty. Lefty loosy."

A locker line would have been a 5 minute fix. I carry extra line a quick splice connectors in my truck. IMHO they are something every one who runs ARB's should have in their tool kit.
If you call ARB USA they will hook you up, some of the best customer service int the off road industry from what I've seen.

That's good to know, Dan. Thanks!

Seth is the guy who made the deal on my lockers happen so I'm sure he'd help out on the splice, too.
I took a look at the lines and, yeah, you're right. Looks fairly easy.

Ok, thanks so much! Now I wish that's what it was! LOL
