Its a 76, stock drive train with a leaf spring suspension.
Seats are thrashed, paint is oxidized, frame is TOTALLY intact, and the tub is decent with some rust at the rear corners.
Ill be able to build this, and keep wheeling the 62 until I need to strip the components I need.
There is pleanty to keep my busy in the mean time.

LOVE IT!

BTW, Jack...Im gonna need to borrow the trailer if that is okay. The rig is in sparks, so I dont have to go all that far.

Sounds like a great platform to start with. Does it have the top and doors?

No problem on the trailer, just let me know when.

Jack

Congrats Chicago.

That's a good base for a builder. Wider, longer, more power. In that order.

No carb, no fan and no brake lines...
This guy has what appeared to be a lot of projects on his plate, and just sort of ran out of interest on this one.
He's got a v8 40 in his garage that he is in the GRIPS of doing a coil over front with a 4 link rear.
I really like this guy. He was interested and empathetic to my plans. I basically told him if the rig wasnt cheap enough, it was basically no good to me as REALLY all I need is the tub and frame. He actually understood that logic. I guess its something only a cruiser guy/ wheeler with big dreams and aspirations would understand.
He dropped his price, and then we struck a different deal which dropped the price even more where I give him back the trans and t case.

worked for both of us.

Thanks Andy and Alvero!
REALLLY excited about this. I have a good meaty project to work on, and still have the luxury of having a wheeler.

Thanks Dan,
I might be interested in that hard top later on. Right now, I need to get the rig home and digest all that needs to be done, and where.

That's true...
But I have MOST of the stuff I need already, so it shouldnt be TOO TERRIBLE actually.
Dont get me wrong...there is still lots of money to plunk down, but Im not starting from scratch either (THANK GOD!).

FWIW I don't miss my hard top at all. I don't think I've seen the Hard top on Shawns rig in all the years I've know him. Hard doord on the other hand are a must have. Soft doors suck in winter.

Im now OFFICIALLY the proud papa of an FJ40.
She came home with me last eve. and is now resting comfortably in my 3rd car garage.
It is a 76, but it has NO front discs...apparently (which makes sense now) a new axel was required and it was from an earlier year 40 with the drums...Hence the need for new brake lines.
Ive got a LOT of work to do for sure.
Crazy as it may seem...I REALLY looking forward to it.

Can anyone PM me Shawn's number. I need to pick his brain on something that COULD potentially REALLY help me with the cost of this build and get things moving a BUNCH quicker.

K

Got to poke around the 40 today a LITTLE bit.
That thing is SOOOOO FAAAAAR from running in its stock form it isnt even funny.
There is crap D/C'd all over, bolts missing, the front flip down grill thing isnt bolted in....Fortunately I dont really care about that stuff as its all gonna get torn down and re done.
I did take off one side of that crappy diamond plate...Better than I was expecting. The lower edge on the bend of the DS is a MASS of bondo and GET THIS...there was a FU*KING PEPSI CAN used IN THE GLOB OF BONDO for spme backing....WTF do people think....SERIOUSLY!

Im off to Chicago tomorrow, so Ill talk to you all when I get home in a week.

Be safe and have fun!

Who could have guessed there would be issues under the diamond plate.

Have fun in Chicago, I heard they have some pretty good Pizza there.
