From the minutes of June

Well I see that for some reason I haven't emailed the minutes out for the June meeting. I had to snail mail them to Dick G and I usually do that right after I email them. But the following is from the June meeting.

July 11th & 12th. Deer Valley and Strawberry trail. Meet at the AM/PM near the intersection of SR 88 and Highway 396 just as you get into Minden. Leave time 8 AM.

Mike

I think I'm building a shed that weekend.

I'm not really all that excited about building a shed, I was trying to hype my self up about it.

I'm actually going to be riding my bicycle from Seattle to Portland that weekend. Not that I'm in shape for it or anything. On the plus side, I might be making a stop at Metal Tech, see if there are any tube bumpers in stock.

Your bike will look good with a tube bumper.

Jeez, it wouldn't hurt to have some bike armor. Cars are getting a little too close to cyclists around Tahoe. It's crazy-people-behind-the-wheel time around here. Going up to Seattle to ride with 10,000 cycling maniacs where we can have safety in numbers.

Anyhoo, might be getting a deal with metal tech on a tube bumper. Mark, the owner, was in Tahoe last week visiting with a bunch of family, or something, and through the grapevine, we ended up on a bike ride along the Truckee River.

Dan,
Off thread topic but...when I checked the price of the shed ingredients versus Tuff Shed (I can't think of the shed I bought from an outfit like Tuff Shed in Silver Springs about 10-years ago?) it was about a coin toss. And they delivered it, assembled it and I painted it. Just an FYI.

I'm in for this weekend, Last Fri. the 3rd I did the top half in the 4 runner. It was a bit of a challenge with just 33s and my little 3 inch lift. Had to stack a couple of times! It will be much more fun in the 40. There were lots of misquitoes and we thought about leaving as soon as we got there(second river crossing) but we stuck it out and enjoyed a night of camping the out the next AM. My wife never let go of the ohhh shinikeeeess bar and kept looking at me for that are we ok look. Fun Fun(for me) MARK

I'm not going to be able to make this one. The 40's making some strange noises coming out of the drive shaft or rear axle.

Ok is it just me and Kieth in his Blue Bomber Blocth Beauty or is Dan going to shine the shed project and come along? Who else is going? I'll go alone cause that trail is just that fun. Keep movin and the bugs don't bother ya. I heard that last years trip was a bust cause of some stock rigs havig a bit O trouble. This is not a stock rig trail if you want enjoy the day. Going in last friday I met a couple of wheelers from the Bay Area one in a stock Jeep with bald tires and another in an 83 mini with 31" bald tires. They seemed concerned about the 1st river crossing and if they could make it across. I told them that that should be the least of their worries. Coming out the next day we saw them--they had made it about two obstacles and decided to camp still about 1 mile and 6 more obstacles from the river. Stock rigs should come but damn the torpedoes don't worry about the tin and don't be timid about asking for the strap. Anyhoo(to quote Kieth)--- WHO ALLS GOING! Mark

We have already priced out Tuff shed and the guy in Silver Springs. We also looked at kits, but the area is an odd shape so it will have to be custom if we want to make the best use of the available space. I need to price it out before we decide but I think building it ourselves will win in this case.

We usually run the trail south to north which makes it a bit tougher. Last year Jack, Will and I did the trail with no problems other than a couple of broken tail lights on Will's rig. LINK TO LAST YEARS DEER VALLEY THREAD

I doubt I'll be able to duck out on shed building but I'll run it by , she likes Deer valley.

I was wondering if ANYONE was gonna be going...
I had kinda already planned otherwise, but. If we get some folks who wanna go, I might be able to still swing it.

Ooops, dates mixed up. How about the following weekend, anyone up for a run? Could be hard or easy, I don't care.

My dance card is clean 7/15-20. Was thinking Fordyce but I think it's still got too much flow, so anything else will do, including a meander out into the backcountry of Nevada.

If I don't come up with a plan, I'll be stuck building a shed or something.

Ok guys I'm still going. I will be at the meet place at 8:00 and leave at 8:15. It is a quick run if you don't run into the bummer hummer club. Leave at 8:15 to hwy 4 campground trailhead by 9:15/9:30 and off the trail at Blue Lakes by 1:30. I have never been on the strawberry trail so wasnt planning on that. The weather will be great. Hope to see ya'll.

This shed building thing certainly appears contagious . We put one up last winter during our balmy January...but I have to admit I had somebody else do the work . Labor is cheaper now that we are in a building/construction melt down/collapse.
