S. Town trail...BUST!

Well, I shouldnt say it was a BUST, it just didnt run to where I thought it would.
It starts behind the rock pit by Rattle snake Mt. It meanders through a canyon, over into a valley where it looks as if it used to be a mining trail. It ultimately "peters" out sealing it off from the main route trail that runs from VC to Lockwood, making it a LOOP that takes a couple of hours to run.
There are a couple of good hill climbs, and some off camber sections of the trail and some SPECTACULAR VIEWS over looking Reno/ Sparks. Its was a fun lil run all in all.
My friends Jeep just had a 3 in lift put on...I noticed that sometimes a heavier rig is sometimes advantageous...he tended to get a little LIGHT on the up hill side than I did on some of the off camber spots.
Poor bastard is starting to get that little twinkle in his eye when he's wheeling and the dollar signs are popping up around his head when we talk.

Here are some pics.

Thanks for the pictures.

And BTW I've been meaning to talk to you about the crowd you've been hanging out with.

Yeah...well...
His rig is...well...RUNNING, so...you gotta do what you gotta do.

He's even an ENGINEER for chrissakes. You think he'd KNOW BETTER!
The one thing I CAN say in my defense is that I didnt know him BEFORE he got the heep. You know that old saying..."friends dont let friends..."
Something like that.

Yeah...well....it's like I told somebody the other day when they asked me what I would do for the next year without a rig for trail rides.....I told them, I don't trail ride anymore, I'm building a rock crawler!!

I can't say much, mine isn't really a cruiser anymore. It's gonna mostly chevy, with a jeep tcase, toyota axles, a little sheetmetal, lots of tube, and crazy flex. I'm not posting anymore pictures on MUD of my build, I've seen too many people that get b!tched at for "cutting up" a cruiser.

I 2nd the engineer part, without even knowing anything about cruisers or jeeps, you can look at them and tell what's built stronger!!

Its more of a geographic location than anything else.
Its on the S/E side of Reno, back by Rusty Dan's and my house in Damonte Ranch.
There is some fun stuff to play around on back there. You can find lots of creative ways to test out your gear.
You can also access the trail that runs from Lockwood to VC practically in my back yard. That will run you up to such famed trails as Bronco Canyon, Dead horse canyon and the petroglyphs.
Its pretty cool to air down your tires in your drive way to go wheel.

Right on, thanks.

When I lived in Coalinga, CA, I could throw a rock to the dirt where we would go play at. My rig never got taken out of 4wd!

You'll want to get something for trail rides before you know it. Your going to want to take your son camping and fishing and stuff.

BTW crazy flex isn't everything.

Chicago and I are lucky we live close enough to the Virgina range access trails that we can air down in the driveway and head east almost all the way to Fernly with out hitting black top.

I think you can take a route that will get you all the way to Las Vegas without more than 30 or 40 miles of black top.

Yeah, there is a 40 here in town that has been "kinda" for sale for awhile. It is stock with add a leafs, SBC, and an sm420 on 31x1050's. I have been thinking about offering up a little bit for it. I definately have to get a trail rig sometime or another or I won't have anybody around here to wheel with!!!

I have always wondered about a dirt road/trail type ride to Vegas. That would be cool!! Say your traveling 10-15 MPH, nice little 3 day trip huh? Just cruising along.....

A lot of the roads are 45-55 mph gravel highways with short stretches that wind over passes. We've already done a lot of the roads just not on the same trip.

I have a couple of friends who did it on their dirt bikes. It took them 2 days and they were travelling on average 30 miles per hour. They went from Wilson Canyon to the Strip. Almost no pavement. All said and done it was a little over 500 miles. They had a blast.
