Snow Run 2009

So Ali and I were sitting here watching the snow fall and decided that Saturday would be a good day for a snow run to...You guessed it VERDI...

We were thinking the usual meet at 9:00 am, leave around 9:15 am.

Meet: Scolari's just off of Robb Dr., that way everyone can fill up at the gas station right there and fill up on any last minute snacks/food.

Bring your food, drinks and warm clothes. Hopefully we can make it a great day. Ali has his chains so there will be some serious trail breaking on this one.

Hopefully the snow is deep.

See you there.

Jack

That sucks, I was hoping both of you were going to be able to make this one.

I am going to see if both James and Jereme want to go play in the snow also. Nothing beats snow wheeling for learning new wheeling techniques with little possibility of damage.

See everyone there.

Jack

Just stumbled upon this group

That sounds like fun, a real snow run with chains!

Can I invite myself to that run?

We were so darn busy getting ourselves unstuck, as Patrick mentioned above, we didn't even have time to...

...make espresso . That was the only 'wrong' part of today .

It was expensive though...snapped my spendy syn winch line...broke two tire chains (hopefully Schwab will warranty exchange them)...

Well...its 3-years old and I've used it at least a dozen times or more. I'll have to inspect it tomorrow...guess I'm going to learn how to weave it back together

What brand was it?

Here's a decorative yet functional braid I did on my first syn. winch line (Amsteel Blue). I'll never buy Amsteel again. The first time I wound this rope to the drum (2002) it came right out of the swedge. I was not happy to say the least. I bought Master-Pull and turned the AmSteel into a winch line extension. 100 feet of it to be exact.

I've ran Master-Pull since 2002 on three different rigs and have never had a single problem. The first Master-Pull rope has lasted five years and countless high stress pulls on trails like Fordyce and the Rubicon. One stormy night on Fordyce, it pulled four rigs through a steep sluice box using tree savers with snatch blocks to make it around a few turns. All without a single problem.

Awesome pics Dan.
I see the faint outline of a dog in that one pic...Funny how you can see shapes in the snow like that.
SOOOOO, were the chains the HOT ITEM to have?
I mean did they make all the difference?
I had never run chains, and was curious.

Sounds like everyone got a bit of a work out then. That is some physical work IMO.

Camo dog ;-)

Matt broke trail; he did a great job especially considering no one had gone before him. To do that you absolutely need chains x 4. I was #2 and could not have gotten where I did without chains x 4. Patrick was #3 with chains up front only; he did great. Jack was #4 without chains and tires at 12psi; he did great. Ali at #5 position had chains on the rear I believe. And James brought up the rear without chains.

We all had to winch at one point or another. A rig with portals, 37's & HD chains would have gotten trail broke to the top yesterday. Or one of those Icelandic rigs .

But fun we had!!! We missed ya!!!

Well...stupid me! I had the winch line exiting the drum on top instead of on bottom. That probably contributed to the line's demise. Although there are other small frays in the winch line.

Jereme: The MasterPull looks like the ticket with its outer shield wrap (among other proprietary features). And not having to soak/clean the line would be a huge time saver too!
