Skinny Pedal gets a 350!
Ok, scored a 350 and a sm420. I have a good amount of parts, just looking around for the rest. I'll start with a list of what I have......
ENGINE:
350 long block, heads, valve covers, oil pan
water pump
intake
carb
starter
alternator
HEI distributor
ram horn manifolds
plug wires
flywheel
SM420:
clutch
pressure plate
Things I need:
radiator
fan
pulleys
motor mounts
The other stuff I need is mostly small stuff, nuts and bolts here and there, plumbing, thta sort of stuff. Looking forward to wiring and such! The biggest thing I need is the SM420/3speed tranny adapter, so if you have one hiding in your sock drawer, let me know please. Also, any advice on the swap all together would be appreciated. Add to my list of parts too please, I know I have forgotten a bunch of stuff.
On a side note, I am looking for a set of 4 inch springs for the front as well, so if anybody has any hiding beside the tranny/x-case adapter in the sock drawer, let me know.
Thanks,
Chris

I sure hope you get some help with the parts you need so you can get all set up they way you want. I can't wait to go wheeling with you when you are done.

Scoopin' up a roll cage
The said she wouldn't ride in the 40 without a full roll cage after I put the 350 in it......so I cruz craigslist last night and I find this baby. And the price isn't a misprint, I called to confirm and I am leaving in an hour or so to go get it. Here is the link.....

That doesn't look like a stock roll bar.
I have a stock roll bar in storage, I wouldn't trust it even in a slow roll never mind a highway speed roll. The metal is scary thin.
Is a roll cage the place you want to go cheap?

Could you not see the picture? It isn't a stocker, he put a question mark beside it. He came across it somehow or another I guess. It has the front hoop, cross bar and dual spreaders overhead.

Oops, I overlooked this, guess you did see the picture....
I have a stock bar in mine right now too, that's why I have been looking to get a cage. Next summer we can add to the back and do the whole family cage thing.

It will look better when I stretch the wheelbase out a bit. Figured while I was in the sheetmetal hatin' mood, I might as well cut some off.

BTW...Pick and pull has TONS of the older chevy motors in rigs down there, that Im sure you could score MOST of the little crap youll need.
With the Vortec, my only option is to go to Reno auto wreckers because of the late model....Those guyz seem to get first dibs on wrecked late model cars and trucks.
Im sure you know this and or have checked, but just thought Id throw that out, just in case.
I think Downey has the adapter...not sure how much, but.
Jim posts here on mud in the forums as well. There are GOBS of AA re-sellers on here too. One of them is Orangefj45 (georg)...GREAT GUY, an invalueable resource and an AMAZING builder too. If you PM him, he can get you a discount, but youll have to order it directly from him. For my adapter for the 4L60E to the NP203, Downey had the best price, FWIW.
Also, might wanna post up in the "wanted" section...Folks have some unusual parts lying around.
Just a few resources for ya.

I need a few things here and there. Gonna go grab the trans from my brother in laws this week. I checked with Orangefj45, he does have a good price for the AA adapter. I also looked at EBI and a few others. There were a few on craigslist, but I am a little skiddish of driving all the way to Sac-town for a used adapter if you know what I mean. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get started on the ole rust bucket...... ???

Well, made my mind up! I talk'd it up enough to the wifey, and after some research.......WE'RE GOIN' 1 TONS!!!!!!!
Instead of running 35's or so after the SBC/SM420 combo on yota axles and wanting to change it within the year, we're going big!
Got a line on a few 1 ton axle sets, and got a hook up on a Dana 300 t-case for those beautiful front digs!
If anybody else has any smokin' deals or know of any, let me know!

If youre gonna do that, Spring it over!
Youll gain some width I think with the 1 tons to make op for the COG gain.
I think youll be sorry you didnt. SOA is quite a beautiful thing IMO, and you have actually more stability with 4 on the ground than 3 or in some cases 2 wheels. I hear you on the COG thing, but if youre gonna go with a wider axel, just something to consider.
Cant wait to see the progress on this...seriously!

OH MOST DEFINATELY GOING SOA BRO!! My bud has some waggy springs I can use, and I have a pick between a 60 or a 14 bolt from Fallon Dan. Just need to find the front and the t-case.
I just don't want to do stuff twice. Like I told Carolyne, I want to run 40's or 42's, might as well go big while we are at it. And everybody knows my drivin' style, should be a good show with tons and big meats!

14 bolt , we need somebody to replace Brian. You could always tell which line he took by the metal left on the rocks.

Very true, they are big. 60 HD's are getting hard to come by and pricey at that! I'll end up shaving it to a 13 bolt after everything is in.

Yeah, your right about it all being 1 ton after it's finished up. But what if I get a SCOUT Dana 300.....hahaha......
The springs I can get for nothing, but I may end up lookin' for a set of FJ60 springs....it's just what ever comes across the table.
Got the steering box, ran the numbers and it's the HD one!! Evidently they are 2.75 lock to lock. Most of the cruiser guys don't like those because it can make highway lane changes a little FAST AND SKETCHY. They look for the 4+ turn saginaws, but I'm going tons, so it will make it a little less scary on quick turns.
I went by and took a good look at Mike's rig the other day. One day I wanna take a peep at yours. I was behind you a month or so ago, but I was in the 's Yukon and didn't want to start honkin' and wavin' and have you thinkin' I was a lunatic.....wait, most people already think that anyways!

I might have a drivers drop low pinion 60 for sale. Out of a Dodge 2500, 1994. It's not the king of the HP 60's, but it's an option..

Maybe so. I know they used some on John's 91. I'm not sure if there are any left out there. I'll give him a buzz here in a bit. I am packing my bags for New Orleans right now and hangin' with the kid.
