July 19, Im gonna take the test and make the plunge! If anyone else is interested who isnt already licensed...Its at the Carson Valley inn in Minden. I can post contact info if needed. A question for the geeks... Are there questions on the actual test regarding the formulas? Im just wondering if that is something that I need to know COLD or not... Wish me luck! Glad to hear you are taking the plunge. Good luck Keith! I need to spend more time getting to know more than the very basics of my radio! __________________ Modded '99 for overlanding/exploring: 35's, 4.88's, AO drawers, Slee rr, TJM fr, ARB fr locker, ear candy, Waeco CF-50, PowerGate with 2nd battery, home brew sliders & t-case skid plate, 9.5XP/X-line, LF 170's, OEM 864's, Foxes x 4, 12mm BL, Carl's UCAs, ... Thanks!
Im pretty good with "test memorization" technique...nursing school. However, the application in this case without any hands on experience...I hope Ill learn more after I get involved. Seems to be a lot of information that isnt entirely applicable for the "new" user... Oh well...Ill get what I need from it to operate and learn more as I go. Good luck on the test.
As far as how much theory you need to know in the Real World ®, it's handy to know about good grounding practice and a few other essentials but with a little help you can get by with out knowing much electrical theory at all. __________________ Dan Johnson Quote:

Yeah... Im pretty good with the blood and guts type stuff. However, I learned that in the "field"...Im still bound by my scope of practice as an RN. For expample... Lets say you got squished in a roll over, and say you had a pneumo (puncutred lung)...I may be able to dx that, and also be able to insert an emergent chest tube, but when "real" help arrives...I could potentially lose my license over the incident as that is ABOVE my scope of practice. Even starting an IV requires a dr's order...I could do basic life safety measures "legally" BTW, I just made the open heart surgery team!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() very BIG DEAL for me. Very intense. Ill be taking a LOT more call, but that means A LOT more MONEY too. Im just waiting for my PM shift to get covered, then i go to day shift and start the training for that. I cant WAIT! Hand written unless they've changed it since 1-year ago. Yep...same questions from the current ARRL License Manual.

Good luck Kieth. You will have no issues with the test.

I was of the impression (at least after discussing it with the anesthesiologist's here) that if medically trained, the good samaritan scope becomes narrower. They demonstrated using a gelco as an EMERGENT chest tube, but backed it up with the personal liability consequences of the procedure... Youre right though...If I can save someone it should be done regardless! The QRZ test questions come straight from the ARRL question test pool. If you are doing the test randomly you might go back and take them sequentially to make sure you see all the questions. __________________ Dan Johnson Quote:

Know the rules and the laws, it seems like most questions on the test are from there. My tech test had 1 question where you had to apply Ohm's Law. It was shockingly easy. If you have access to Gordon West's book and quick read through that will net you a pass. If it's the ARRL tome, that's heavy sledding to get to the stuff that's actually on the test.
Everybody I've talked to had the question about rebroadcasting music from the Space Shuttle (legal), otherwise any music over the ham frequencies is forbotten. I studied for my General on HamtestOnline and didn't miss a question on the exam. That study method rocks, but you have to pay for it. __________________ Andrew 1971 FJ-40 Rubicon tested 1976 FJ40 RIP 1984 FJ-60 H55f, 4.11, OME, Daily Driver 1989 FJ-62 117k-son's driver for now. 1997 FZJ-80 Factory sub-tank, and other tricks |

Im studying from QRZ, and the AARL book that I borrowed from Rusty TLC. The QRZ sample tests seem to encompass EVERY DETAIL in the book, but has MANY more questions than what is found in the back of the book.
