NOHVCC Travel Management Workshop Sceduled for June

This NOHVCC Route Designation Workshop Series for Land Managers, OHV Enthusiasts and Other Stakeholders is scheduled for June 2008, in Mena, Arkansas. The dates, times and place are posted below, so mark your calendar and plan to attend. The purpose of these workshops is aimed at helping to ensure successful implementation of the US Forest Service Travel Management Rule after the initial motorized route designation process has been completed, including the development of partnerships, resources, and techniques to achieve trail sustainability. This workshop will be conducted on June 13-14, 2008 in Mena, Arkansas and is for US Forest Service personnel, OHV enthusiasts, and other stakeholders interested in travel management on National Forests in Arkansas and Oklahoma. The purpose of this workshop is to assist the US Forest Service and other stakeholders in gaining knowledge and developing skills and partnerships that will result in long-term sustainability and improvement of trail systems. The workshop is open to all who want to attend and there is no charge. Other state and federal agency personnel are welcome and encouraged to attend both days. Continental breakfast will be served at 7:30 AM on Friday. Lunch and refreshment breaks will be provided on both days. Please note this is not a US Forest Service meeting to gather comments on any particular travel plan. Rather, this workshop will help you understand the implementation of the US Forest Service Travel Management Rule after the initial Route Designation has been completed and will assist you in developing the skills and tools required to sustain a viable trail system on public lands. A workshop registration form is included with this release. Registration deadline is June 9, 2008. After that date, registration may be possible if space is available. This national workshop series is sponsored by Americans for Responsible Recreational Access (ARRA), the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), and the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA). Coordination of the workshops is provided by the NOHVCC. Design of the workshop sessions was a collaborative effort by professional trail consultants, ARRA, MIC, SVIA, American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), Blue Ribbon Coalition (BRC), United Four Wheel Drive Associations (UFWDA), and NOHVCC; with input from USFS trail managers. The Workshop objectives are: To develop the strategies and skills necessary to implement decisions made under the US Forest Service Travel Management Rule; To develop the partnerships and resources to maintain and improve the designated route system on Forest Service lands; To facilitate efforts to improve volunteer effectiveness, organization, and management; To develop a common understanding of trail maintenance techniques; To examine a range of OHV trail signing protocols and principles; To explore a variety of techniques to achieve required trail monitoring; and To improve working relationships and increase partnerships between the USFS, state and local agencies, the OHV industry, OHV enthusiasts, and other stakeholders.
