FlatBed Trailer

I was wondering if you guys knew where to rent a flatbed trailer. The FJC can't be towed with 2 legs on the ground.. all 4 have to be off the ground. I rented a Uhaul little trailer but I need a flatbeed. The cheaper the better.

haha with my rolla I wish. I'm trying to take it from the stealership to my house. Which is about a 6-7 mile trip, and I'd be using my father's 100.

U-Haul has a "car hauler" that is a flat bed like trailer. I hauled my 40 on one once and it worked great. The only problem I had was when I winchd the FJ40 up to the point on the trailer where the front tires are supposed to go the tow vehicle's rear bumper was on the ground. (It was a Cherokee and I am ashamed.) I ended up balancing the 40 over the tandem axles on the trailer and it worked fine. I do not recall the cost.

I found some cheap towing service for $50. I already took out my alternator(which was not working) and found out one of the "sealed" bearings got some dirt into it.. applied engine degreaser but it did not work.. I am already getting a new one so I can have the FJC back on the road again. Toyota service sucks and the fact that they only bring pussy off roaders to the US nowadays sucks even more.

Carlos,
Have you called around t o find an alternator. You could probably buy one somewhere for less that $400 (I'm thinking in Rover prices here) and install yourself. Hell, I'll come over and help you put it on.

Call crusierdan, I'm sure he can get you one for cheaper than what they are gonna charge you. DON'T TAKE IT IN!!

I was thinking about doing both.. rebuilding mine with this old southern guy in downtown raleigh. He was recomended by a mechanic friend of mine who's giving me a hand with this whole deal, and visiting junkyards for old 4runner/Taco(130amps instead of the 100 that the FJC needs) alternators, which might be a good idea to have in case I run a which and off road lights in the future, or tow something or decide to have 2 batteries for some weird reason, and if I don't put it on. I have it there for parts.

Chad,I wont take it in, it's already at my house.. with no alternator. I sprayed it with WD40 then left is soaked in degreaser all night long to get the mud off and general cleaning.

Chad new toyota alternators go for $600 retail, which I could probably find for about $500, but Fred Anderson wanted to charge me $800 for it. If I ever get a hold of an RPG. It's not going to NCSU campus police station no more.

But other than the bearings the alternator was in perfect. I'm thinking of getting some better quality bearings. Just so this doesn't happen again. But we'll see when I go to the alternator guy this afternoon.

Thanks for offering to help me out, but I think I got this under control until now atleast.
Darin where do you get yours rebuilt? Doesn't hurt to knock on some other doors.

Carlos - I don't know if your talking about the guy over off S. Saunders street but I highly doubt you'll ever get that thing back in a timely manner. I dropped off a winch motor to him to have the fields replaced and he never got around to it. I left it there for 4 months, called and he said he'd get right on it, waited a month and said to hell with it. I stopped by to pick it up and it was sitting in the exact spot where I left it and he had spilled tobacco juice all over it. Just my experience, hopefully yours will be better. There is another guy over by the airport that is pretty good too. I can get you the number if your interested.

mmmm well I had the delivery guy take it to the alt shop to test it out.. and it worked.it appears that the degreaser got everything out, or enough for the alt to work. I'm ordering a new set of bearings and changing it when it gets here. But the car runs fine now.

edit: If nothing comes up I think I'll be able to go to BDOR.
