I don't know.. It was a young guy.. in his 20s? with his gf.. very cool guy. He had a white H3 with some sort of all-terrains.
They were taken at Regency Park, in Cary near the walmart.
and btw I think my alternator screwed up. I did fine for 2 days but now it just wont charge the battery, do you guys know if they're easy to fix? if they can be fixed? and how much do they go for?

If you are talking about on your FJ Cruiser, it should be under warranty. No cost to you at all!
What color was the H3, white?

Carlos,
They will cover that under warranty. Just make sure you clean it up a "little" before you take it in

yeah it's nothing like it was when you guys saw it chad.. and the outside is spotless. They toyota dealerhsip is picking up the towing tab which is nice. I really don't want to go for 10 miles stopping every 2 to jump it. If the alternator would've been screwed up. It'd consume the battery and wont turn on again, but when it dies I let it sit for about 30 hour and it turns on. So I think I have a short circuit/loose cable somewhere in there. Damn toyota not wonder they didn't slap a "land cruiser" badge on this one.

well they said they will not cover it becuase the truck was "submerged" in water.. which it really wasn't. Either way I opened a case with customer relations and lets see how this goes. Originally it takes the 7-9 days for the alternator to get here, and them some change to repair it. I like how they advertasie a "4x4" that can't really do any "4x4" driving. This is my argument. have you of you guys had any experience with this kinda of stuff?

Submerged vs splashed is what I would say. Submerged can be proven by the water line inside the alternator. Splashed is more like a splatter. If they do not cover it, get the FJ, the new alternator and take it to the alternator shop on Westgate. They can install the new one and rebuild the old one, that way you always a spare.
7 to 9 days is ridiculous because this engine has been out for quite some time in 4runner.
Which stealership?
Make sure you get the old alternator back and have it rebuilt. They may try to say they need it for a core, but I recommend getting it back, taking it apart and documenting that it was splashed instead of submerged. Pictures and such. This is when you can TRY to prove your case to Toyota and have them reimburse you.

Carlos - Are you getting it repaired there? I can't imagine it being hard to replace. Can't be but two bolts holding it on. Let me know if you want some help if your doing it yourself. I keep a extra in the back of the Disco and can change that bad boy in under 5 mintues. Got lotsa practice

I know it's ridiculous.. they don't even have any in the US, they had to get them from Japan. Freakin bullshit. They're quoting me $800 dolars with labor. I think that's a little too expensive. I might get a different shop to do it. But at the same time I kinda trust toyota. I'll see what I do, when the customer relations manager calls me back in 1-3 business day. Let the bitching begin. They're gonna see one angry venezuelan if they try to pull the "we don't cover off roading charges" when you have teams paid by you off road the shit out of them.

yeah - I totally understand your anger. What dealership is this? If it's Fred Anderson, I always thought they were a little arrogant to begin with.

I would say be as nice as possible. That way maybe they will split the tab.
My experience with Fred Anderson has been good. I had a 99 100 series and broke the front diff. I brought the truck in with 33 BFG ATs, lift kit, ARB bumper and covered in mud. I thought I was totally screwed. FA calls and says you busted your front diff, it will be ready tomorrow. I said how much and they said $0, you are still under the powertrain warranty. The bill was $3k and they never mentioned it again.
My 2nd experience with FA was a little different but it had to do with the 100 being Toyota certified. Toyotas website clearly states that CVs are covered, boots and all. I took it in because the boots were leaking, they said Toyota Certified does not cover that. I said, the website says you do. They said yeah, but this is Toyota certified in NC and we are different than the rest of the country. I said ok, so I came back to my computer and contacted basically every news show, paper, Toyota executive, Toyota Legal Department, etc I could find on the web with my story. I figured this was a done deal and I would be paying to have the boots replaced.
About 2 months later, I receive a phone call from FA. They said they got a call from the warranty company and they would be happy to replace all four boots for free. Great, I brought the 100 in and all the boots were changed for $0 dollars. I am not really sure who called FA, but someone did.
I would take the angle of submerged vs splashed, that way you have a case. I believe the alternator is above the fording depth of the FJ Cruiser so if you did submerge it they may have a leg to stand on. You could always mention the media and false advertising. Toyota 4x4 ads seem to always show trucks splashing through streams.
$800 is absurd. How much is the part? Do you get to keep the old alternator? If not, I would definitley ask to inspect the old alternator and have your digital camera with you and take some pictures.

yeah it's fred anderson. I am going to talk to the dealer I bought it from, since they were always extremely helpful and willing to work with me to get the FJ Cruiser. When Fred Anderson said, we don't know anything about them yet I already had a manual FJ Cruiser.

I agree the cost of repair is High. And for them not to have them in the US, that is crazy. And to say "We don't know anything about these yet." That is Red Flags, Alams going off and all to take the FJ to someone else. If they don't know anything about them, then how can they be sure that was submerged not splashed.. And like others stated, in the adds they are running them in water all the time. That is nuts... This is why I took Automotive classes in school. I got tired of people thinking they had another dumn blond infront of them, and trying to rip me off on repairs..
Good luck. Let Eric and I know if there is anything we can do to help.

take highway 40 and get off on exit 293 I think? then take 64 west till the tryon rd exit(2nd one) then make your 1st right and keep stay to
the right all the time till you get to the construction site.. the trailhead is about 50-100 feet into the construction you can't miss it it's on the right.
I also think the fact that I am young makes them think that nothing I say counts. I am still paying those $420 per month like a 40 year old would. I know it's ridicouls that they don't have parts for it here in the US. I mean it's not like it's a new engine. It's the same 1GR-FE that you find in the 4runner and tacomas. That engine's been out for about 2-3 years already.
I already opened up a case with Toyota(not the dealership). I'll be calling every single day till I hear a satisfactory response.
"Hey this is toyota we make and advertise 4x4s that can't go off the road" Way to go toyota. I am starting to regret not spending this money on the 40.

Carlos my thinking is that they should not pay for it....jeje do not get mad at me but I really believe you should pay for damages resulting from wheeling the truck.

if I snapped an axle.. or dented a cat, or smashed the skid plate and screwed something up because I used and abused it. or got some body damage from 4wheeling it. Then I'd agree with you. But not because water got into the alternator, if I would've submerged it in water.. then I'd agree with you as well. but not because water/mud got splattered by the fan onto the alternator.

Didn't they tell you to keep that thing on dry pavement??
You have lots of options for resolution, just depends on how much patience you have and how long the FJ can be down...
Good luck, I hope it works out.

They need to cover it. Hell there's a commercial right now running on TV for some dealership where the guy is driving a Yellow FJ through the water at the beach. I think it's toyota of Sanford. Anyways, it is bs, all of it. Your taking this way better than I would be. I'd grab a chair and sit out in front of the blue one they have for sale and let all the "soon" to be owners know what's going on. But I tend to be an ass like that when I feel I'm getting the big end of the pool stick.
Land Rover Cary now has roses in the car when my wife picks it up after services cause they tried to do the typical take advantage of the lady thing, so I showed up and picked up the Disco. This happened once.....once

Land Rover Charlotte used to put the pool stick away and get out the telephone pole when I took my vehicles in for service.
That's why I no longer go to Land Rover Charlotte...

Yeah - Land Rover Charlotte is REAL bad. I was gonna trade my 96 disco on a Defender back in 2000 and they offered me 8K and where selling them on the lot for 19,500 with higher miles than mine.
