Not officially a member, but here's my Cruiser - pretty much bone stock. The pipe that was the front bumper has been replaced with a stock style bumper:

The 4Runner - not so stock:

Allen, damn glad to see you checking in! I'm anxious to hear what happened to Ft Knox on the way back from GSMTR.

And are you sure you want to just give me that 40?

Well, I broke a birf and messed up my alignment a little at GSMTR, but those were no big deal. I think something in the clutch/pressure plate let go about 8 miles from home though. I'm in the process of pulling it apart. I need to fix that problem, and fix the alignment and I really wanna put in Longfields and get tires to replace the bald ones on the front before I wheel it again, so Fort Knox might be sitting for a while until I can work that stuff into the budget.

As for the 40, I think my wife would fight ya over it! She's a big fan of the Cruiser.

New to the area

Hello ONSC... My 88 FJ62 and I recently moved to Durham from the Los Angeles area. I have a baby on the way, but wouldn't mind meeting up with some TLC folks as scheduling permits. My 62 is pretty much stock and is currently my DD. I've owned it for the past 4 years. Hope to meet some of you out in the real world!

-Tom

Hey Tom, welcome to NC, and thanks for checking in! Your 62 looks like a beauty, and the climate here will be kind to it.

I hope you can make it out and say hi some time soon........

Be very careful of rust on that nice 62 though. If you got anyrough spots on it now they will spread fast out here.

Post some more pics of it though.

Funny you mention that actually...
I was washing it this weekend (hence the clean pic), and noticed that there was a decent amount of gunk in the gutter under the chrome trim. I started the "de-blinging" process, and noticed that there was some early corrosion in the base of the gutter. Now I just gotta figure out how to manage it.

my 79FJ40

Here's a few pics of my 79 --- basically restored frame up - too much stuff to list. Originally came from Montana via Richmond VA then to Winston-Salem where I spent about 18-24 months doing the resto work - have a bunch more pics if anyone is interested. Is there a group of folks that get together around the Triad/G'boro area on a routine basis?
Thanks, Tom

Martin's been hittin' the pipe again... He means "Triangle", not "Triad". Right Hovis? The Triad folks used to get together quite a bit, but I haven't seen much activity here from them lately. Try hitting Erymer, I think he could tell you. They used to get together in G'Boro or WS a lot, I think.

Obviously, you will be welcome to head any of our meetings/HAMOM/events, so we can drool over your BADASS 40!

Ramon

No, I haven't had many meetings here lately. Interest seemed to drop off, so we went to wrench-a-thons at people's houses instead. There are a LOT of trucks in winston, but they don't seem to want to be involved much. There is a meeting in Raleigh this weekend I think. I'm hoping to go. Shoot me your email, and I'll add you to the Winston list.

more pics

Hovis/Ramon --thanks for the info and yes, I'm talking about the G'boro/W-S area. I've been out of the cruiser 'world' for a few years - took up another bad habit....trying to get a pilot's license but that's another story. Here's a few more pics of the truck...it basically only gets out on the odd weekend or two. Last thing I made for it was the rear step and some hard half doors -- will try to post some pics of those as well.

Also I have have some 'extra parts' from the resto work that have been collecting dust in the basement...thought I'd keep a bunch of stuff just in case I got crazy and decided to work on another rig...well, that isn't likely going to happen so I'd like to find the 'leftovers' a good home in the Carolinas.

Again, thanks for the info and when you are going to have your next meeting in the Durham/Raleigh area let me know...if I can handle the gas bill to drive that far in the 40 I'll try to make over. Thanks Tom

Me likey! You plan on getting a little dirt under that frame?
Are you in Winston? I'm in Ardmore, and there are 4 or 5 40's right here in this small neighborhood.

Tom, your 40 looks amazing! You have to bring it over to the Triangle this Sunday, we're getting together at the Applebee's at Brier Creek (Highway 70 just west of I-540 on the NW side of Raleigh). I wanna see that thing............

OK - some 'before' pics

rutbeer - I sent you a PM with my email. Yes, I'm in W-S near Robinhood/Peacehaven area. I had the rig for about two years in the 'pre-resto' condition and it got plenty dirty...attached a few 'before' pictures.

Sad to say, since the resto it hasn't been that kinda fun...the pitfalls of doing a full restoration. Had to do it all over again I'd probably keep it a 'little rough' so as not to hesitate enjoying it for what it is...a tough truck.

Little-joe ...Thanks for the invite to Raleigh....what time? I'll see if I can make it ...Its been about 2 years since the resto has been 'done' so while it still looks good its not quite as 'crisp' as these photos indicate. I'm hoping to install a new muffler to quite down the rig a bit...think the neighbors will appreciate that!!

thanks!!

Thanks guys -- appreciate the comments. Yep - those are 'recent' photos...few more attached. Most of the pics I have are too large file format to post on this forum.

The cruiser is basically stock except for a few mods...I did change out the rear drums for the disc brake conversion and when I had the tub off the frame -- blasted it and the frame, POR-15 both and then rhinolined both the under side of the fenders and tub and the lower (below hardtop) inside of the tub. If it could be disassembled and rebuilt it was..I went back with stainless steel hardware on everything but the drive train (grade 8 yellow zinc).

Had the cruiser painted at local place - The Paint Shop by Scott Winfield -- he does alot of hotrods and custom cars mostly. All pieces were painted separately then I reassembled.

I'll try to put together a list of 'excess' parts that are in the basement and post on this site -- hopefully someone can use some of them.

Later, Tom

Aha...a local painter. What did that run? I'm looking at starting my FJ45 resto this year and I don't think I feel like painting again. It's a PITA in a small garage.
Hey, let me know if you go to the Raleigh meeting, we can caravan. I need to see if family is coming to town first though, so I will be last minute on the deal.
