It's been a while since my last post(sounds like a diary entry) wish I could be there for uhwarrie! Unfortuanatly life take me away from home right now, so maybe this winter I'll be able to finish my baby up. The longer this takes the more I'm leaning towards letting someone else paint final coat on the body, take it easy!

It doesn't look like anyone has been on this thread in a while but I would like to express my interest in a North Carolina TLCA club. I have been in the Fayetteville area for about three years and have bumped in to several Cruiser owners but I was not aware of a club. My Fj-40 is kind of in peices at the moment but I hope to have it up and riunning again soon. I also have an Fj-80 but I don't hink my wife is ready for it to go on a trail ride yet.
If any of you live in the Fayetteville/Fort Bragg area feel free to e-mail me at jkkmaddox@earthlink.net or john.s.maddox@us.army.mil. I could use some help/advice rebuilding my 2F.
John

I rolled her over on a trail ride with Deep South Cruisers in Alabama. It was very embarrassing.

Well, this Saturday is probably good unless I try to make it to Uhwarrie. This weekend was rained out, so I just piddled on indoor house projects. What are you interested in measuring? Your 45 looks pretty complete.

As you can see from a couple of pics the PO cut the rear tailgate mounting area off. Where you would have the lights and hinges. He also took the entire toolbox and stuff out for the drivers seat . I could probably show you where i need the pics of and the measurements that i need. I already have the metal cut for the rear, just waiting to get the bed sandblasted then will start welding all on. I am going to get the toolbox cover from SOR but they do not have the box so i need to fab that up and then how the drivers seat fits over that. I have the original seats just no idea how to mount the drivers.

krzyabncanuck,
Thanks for the offer. I will give you a call soon (probably not until the weekend). I have been debating on rebuilding the 2F I have or ordering a rebuilt one. I thought about JToutfitters until I read all the negative comments on here. I ordered some brake parts from them once but never had any service done by them. Do you know of a good machine shop in the area? I have never done a complete engine rebuild but I am willing to give it go if I can get the machine work done locally by a good shop. I blew a head gasket driving back from Fort Benning and over heated pretty bad. I don't think I cracked the block but I figure since I have over 300,00 miles I should just take the "opportunity" and rebuild her.

I have been taking my engines to the same shop to get the machine work done for about 15 years now. Just give me a call and we can link up somewhere and figure out what you need to do.

Saw a great FJ40 soft-top, blue, with a COOLCRUISERS.COM license plate frame and CNC stickers, on Airport Rd in Chapel Hill today. Anyone here?

With that paint scheme you and Texican need to wheel together in Katemcy for sure.
Nice rig.

I very much recommend this event. Lone Star does it right and the area is akin to a mini-Moab.

Todd said it.. First week of April it the Lone Star LC's "Roundup", and I've been told my attendance was mandatory this year..
As for a caravan, I recently tried it with 2 other tow rigs, and between bladder schedules, different towing speeds & techniques, etc.. it took 20% longer (10 hours vs 8) to get back home, and my milage suffered a little too.
It would have been better if all of us had CB's, but *ahem* someone had FRS radios and thought they were CB's...
Anyway, my personal trailer is big enough for my 40, but my good friend has offered the use of his 32' goose. Not so sure if I wanna do this though, it won't save me much $ at all, even if fuel is split 50/50 (Assuming I go from 12-13mpg towing my rig to 9 with the goose & 2 rigs)
I doubt I'll be taking the whole week off, but ya never know... initial plans are to roll out early Wednesday morning, and arrive Thursday night, wheel & hangout Friday, Sat & Sun, and then drive back home Mon & Tues. This all depends on the accomodations. I don't do well with not having a shower for many days. BTDT, got out of the Army.

If it's like years past the registration is on Wednesday afternoon but there's no wheeling until Thursday. So we'll most likely head out on Tuesday morning, drive 900 miles or so, then make the rest of the way (300 miles) the next morning. Grab some 'cue, register, relax. Then wheel Thursday and Friday (raffle), and head back out on Saturday morning. Arrive home in time to regroup on Sunday, get back to work on Monday.
Rich has offered space on his trailer for one of the Petes' 40s though so we need to coordinate that as well. I'm good with a convoy though, as long as it keeps moving.

Don't feel obligated to us on the trailer deal. We can make out ok without you going to that trouble. Pete and I piled in my 80 last year, split the gas. Had a good time.
March 1-5 this year.

er, yeah, March.. LOL..
As far as the trailer goes, I would really LIKE to tow the bigger one. it'll load the suspension better and smooth the ride for sure... My buddy who owns the trailer said he got 13mpg going to Paragon & back with 2 heeps, but he drive a 6.0 powerstroke Ford.. (I get 18mpg empty, 13 towing, he says he's getting 16 empty, 13 towin 2 rigs???)
I'd like to hook 2 rigs and pull that trailer with my rig and see what kinda milage I get soon, and make a better decision then. We'll see. The bigger trailer also makes a better floor for my tent..

Well, swing through Asheville and we'll head out on 40. I really do encourage you to go. It's a damned good time, and having done it twice, it's worth the drive.

krazyabncanuk,
I know I said I was going to call you a while back but I have been very busy and never got around to it. Will you be around tomorrow, Sunday 4 DEC? I am trying to make some final decisions on what to do about my engine. I will not have the money to do much until after the first of the year but I will either buy a new (rebuilt) one or rebuild the one I have. Like I said before I have never done a complete rebuid myself and I am kind of apprehensive about going it alone. My Hanes manual and I have had good luck with other things in the past but a complet engine overhaul might be a bit much.
I will try to call and see what your opinions are regarding cost, time, etc.
John
