NC Vehicle Tax

OK.

My home state that has been taken over by the Commies have uped all of their fees for registration and plates back home. I was just going to transfer my wifes plates but they only have 8 months of registration left and when I have to reup it, it might actually be more expensive.

So I'm wondering what NC Values a 1995 FZJ80 at? If I had to pay at what I purchased it at it would be around 120 bucks. But I'm not sure if they are going to do something crazy like say it is a 15K dollar vehicle and I end up paying out the butt for your taxes. Is there a website for this. I couldn't find one that valued the vehicles. I know they say if you buy it at a dealer they can go off of that price you bought it at. But nowhere is there anything that says that about a private sale. And at this point I didn't get anything from the bank anyway.

Thanks.

You can always go to the tag office and see what they'll pull up as the value - if it values more than what you paid, cancel the transaction and go get a bill of sale from whatever private party you bought it from. It actually worked in my favor to see what they valued my '76 40 at instead of showing a bill of sale -- my bill came to a little over 3.00......

They only valued your car at $100 bucks That is awesome.

I just paid mine and it may have been less than $40 - like $37 or so? I don't recall exactly.

OK my bad.

I meant the Add Valorem tax that they assess you when you register your car. It is 3% of the value of the car.

The few cars I have registered here I get the tax bill at the end of the year that you are talking about. Usually around 3 bucks. But even then I attach my "leave and earnings statement" to it and I don't have to pay those. Sadly I am not able to get out of this tax though.

For instance. I purchased my 4-runner for 500 bucks but they taxed me on 3K. My powerwagone was 500 bucks they chareged me 1500. My 62 I paid nothing really and I can't even remember what it was but way more than I paid for it. So I'm just wondering how much they are going to get me on a 95 luxury vehicle.

Think as someone above said, you might have to go to the DMV. Maybe somewhere online ?

Yeah I'm going to head there tomorrow. I just figured someone had purchased one recently and would know. If it is going to be outrageous I will still probably have my dad go to the DMV with all the paperwork I would send him and have him do it there. If the difference is little though I will just register it here.

I hate TAXES.

According to Obama taxes pay everyones salary. But yes they do. Not happy about it though one bit. Serious as a heart attack. Maybe we should be conscripts. I like that better. Protectors of the state.

Taxes are necessary and I happily pay them in order to have a strong military, good road systems, good public schools, public safety, etc etc. Yeah there is waste and abuse - but blame it on the politicians and those who don't have the spine to do anything about it.

I blame it on the politicians that have every bit of spine and know exactly what they are doing. I agree there are some very specific things in the constitution that state what taxes are to be used for. Sadly 75% of our tax money goes to nothing like that. Federal taxes...protection of our country/infastructure/maybe the political body itself. Except not at 174,000 a year plus all of the tax cheating "Rengel".

State taxes...yeah they should have a bit more freedom if they chose but not to overstep their bounds like they do. Like taking money from something that could be profitiable like fuel taxes and DMV taxes..and then using them to fund not a construction project, but to fund the lawyers that fight to have a track of land they are stealing from ordinary citizens to create a business park.

Example. Oregon recieved federal "stimulus money". What did they use it for.

Out of 1.1 billion they used 700 million to support Social Services. Has anyone heard the teach a man to fish/give a man a fish debate...ohh yeah there isn't much of a debate on that one. On top of that 3 out of every 4 jobs that were created (only 9600) were in the government sector. Thats 42K dollars a job. How long are we going to continue paying those Government jobs when the money disappears. Where is it going to come from.

The answer TAXES.. and the people will for it and their freinds demand it because they won't want to lose their jobs. The politicians are putting the entire country in their pocket with our money.

At least Oregon is better than the average if you took all of the money that was given out and the amount of jobs it created thruout the country. I think it is well above 200K a job using the inflated numbers the whitehouse gives out for jobs created. WOW

Try not paying your taxes a little with every paycheck. Ohh wait you can't do that unless you are self employed. I wonder why that is. If everyone saw at the end of the year how much they were having to fork out to uncle sam there would be a national riot the very next day.

For those that are self employed that have employees...whew 50% of everything they make goes to uncle sam. And lastly take my wife for example. Lets say she is going to sell 10 houses this year. The last 3 she sells 100% of those profits goes to taxes. Hey I know...Let me wake up at 5:00 this morning from September thru New Years day so I can go to work to pay the water/light/cable bill for that fat lady down the street who never works/doens't plan to work/and somehow amazinly enough found someone to procreate with her so she can instill the same lazy work ethic in her children.

I love you Joe... but don't be so damn happy to pay your taxes Lets down a few on Saturday and we will continue this conversation

Yeah I know. When I went to the DMV the lady didn't even care how much I paid for the car as it doesn't matter. The tax you pay when you register the car if I believe correctly is the Highway Use tax (HUT) and is based on whatever DMV says the value is.

It used to be what you paid for the car on the BOS but the state must of wised up seeing how many cars were being sold for $1 .

I've had decent luck calling the DMV customer service line listed on their website. They should be able to give you the tax value over the phone.

NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles: Highway Use Tax (HUT)

$3920. I guess I paid to much

I should have just sent everything to Oregon. Would have been way cheaper afterall. Just would have to wait a lot longer to get all of the stuff back. Ohh well.

Saftey inspection just wore out 5 days ago so they would not give me a plate. I have to go get it inspected tomorrow and then go back to the DMV.

yikes - the tax was 3920? As far as the safety inspection -- when I went last year to register they said they had suspended that program -- and it was no longer necessary to get the car inspected to get the tags for the car....??

I'm guessing they valued the car at that much and he paid 3% off of that amount...

Jason, you know you didn't pay too much

Really wish I would have registered this car in Oregon now. I failed the saftey inspection (windsheild cracked, my liscence plate lights are out or not working (even though they are covered by the tire), and it had the most ever so very ever I hadn't even noticed it exhaust leak).

So now I have no plates and need to do some work for inspection. I guess we will be bringing the LX450 to the event this weekend. Ohh well.
