making room

(notice the airbox inside fender that im sure does wonders for air flow)
striking a perfectly good fender w/ a punch

the toughest mod to mentally prepare for so far

definately took a few of these

always nice to have a perfectionist on hand. ( i secretly hired him for his skinny arms but he trumped me with the multiple back surgery card when he saw the position necessary ) see figure #*@?

figure#*@?

admiring the destruction of my fender

more holes !!!

rubber nutserts like i used for roof rack removal

i hear you dont want to hit whats behind the third hole and i was using longer Stainless Steel hardware 2/3 if fine for me

gotta love this within reach, thanks pops!

finished up

note the antennae routing thanks to some at target that decided to break it

I have GOT to get me one of these garage things.....

and heading home with the helper

whoevers next i got a set of printed instructions (from mud and much better than safari's) and a hole saw bit to lend.

and thanks to Emma for hooking me up with the snorkle

Jason, can you post up any improvements in temps, mileage, acceleration, etc. I know when we installed on teh 4runner diesel it made it much quicker and pickup at start was drastically improved.

i think i knocked a few seconds off my 1/4 mile

Sure thing. I expect mostly improvements with the engine temps. Next mod will be a working gas tank that should allow me to check mileage against previous records.

only 10 miles so far...no butt dyno improvements to say. I just dont think quick starts and 37s on stock gears mesh well.

So does J - haha.

Looks really good and I admire your bravery for cutting. It would've had to look the other way if I was there while it was being done.

Interested to see if you can tell any perfromance/temp benefits once you put some mile on it.

How bad is it? I got a pretty bad one last year, went down town, waited in line, pleaded quilty to 9 over, paid court cost and went on my way. No insurance points. I have not had any tickets in a while and did not use a prayer for judgement. It was me and all the lawyers. A lawyer would have cost 300+.

Well, with speeding tickets and all the money you dump into the 80 you'll never get a garage!! I'll give you $5,000 for it.....

I was curious why you put a snorkel on, you'd have to drive into the ocean to hydrolock your truck Jason.

god, if only they made invisible ones. Day two and tired of all the dumb ?'s and confused looks.

As far as performance, i was surprised. I was after the cooling aspect and honestly if I didnt have the blower I would not have done this mod. I got to take it up into the hills a bit on sunday night, far enough to find out where steves been hiding out and see the latest local 80 score.

What i noticed:

Ran on average 4 degrees cooler, 188 is my normal running temp and was pinned on 184
throttle response much improved; soon as you manipulate the pedal, downshifts and accels immediately (no more feathering for a downshift)
Pulls harder, longer; that is it will grab 3rd and hold it till your done with it (or the cop says stop)
Doesnt feel any faster, but it gets up to same speed using less RPM

first two are most noticeable and impressive
