Ordered OEM reproduction softtop for the FJ40

Hi All,

I just placed the order for one of the first canvas softtop's being made in SC. It will be a black 7 window (hopefully the right color for the 653 Olive Green 40).

Anyway, I will update this thread as I progress.

If everyone would keep an eye out, I am looking for deals (I am in no hurry, yet) on the following I would appreciate it.

- softtop bow parts/pieces (try to gather enough to make complete)
- softtop bow set that will work or can be made to work with 1978 FJ40 tub
- softtop windshield channel
- tailgate or barn doors that I can us with the softtop

Again, I am not in a hurry so I am looking for reasonable prices, hope to be able to get softtop and bows for right around 1k'ish

More to come, very slowly, I cannot wait to have a OEM style softtop on the 40...pretty excited.

Nice - what company in SC makes tops?

For the bows, you could always just get a set of Paki reproduction ones. Alex here on MUD (SouthBoston something) sells Ehsan's stuff. Might be worth shooting him a PM.

Hi all have seen these post. The top is coming from ocdbeetle with the UC club he is making his first few in the next 2-3 months. Look great IMO and fairly local compared to Eshan

Just a little update......The black canvas is awesome...I was actually using canvas that was imported from Pakistan for the first couple but couldnt get black so I sourced some from the US and its absolutely awesome.......Should be coming together nicely by the end of this week.....maybe the week after at the latest.....Please shoot me a pm and let me know if you want rain flaps over the zippers or more of a standard type zipper install.....I think OEM would be more without the rain flap but wanted to check as I don't mind doing the flap.....JohnnyC has a top with rainflaps if you want to compare....Maybe he'll chime in with his opinion....
Let me know in the next couple days if you can.....
Jim

correct Jim oem had no rain flaps...i have rain flaps on my reproduction top and a quite glad i did...expecially if you live in the new england area...it helps extend the life of the zippers

here's some pics of my weather/rain flaps

Not sure if they are rain flaps, but Mark A.'s latest post about OEM top (white) had some flaps over the zippers. I need to go back and read a bit more, but this is what I thought I read.

Great looking top btw.
