Southend Fort Fisher to Bald Head Island Sunset Cruise
Mindy and I drove from the Aquarium end to the farthest south end of Fort Fisher this evening, then strolled onto Bald Head Island (what happened to the channel?) and picked up a fossilized shark tooth as the sun set behind the sea oats.....stopped at TP's for some nabs and settled on a chili dog from the Tastee Freeze by Big Daddy's.
We decided that this is what we want to do when we grow up.....oh yeah, that time is definitely now......
First mod planned is to Line-X the rear spoiler so the surf kayak slides on and off the roof easier......

x2 on the pics.
The last time I was down there...over the 4th, there was a spot that was really narrow at mid-high tide. Has that changed?

S4.....high tide was around noon today....our romp was from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.......park was closed this weekend due to high tides from Hurricane Bill influence.....Both Monday and Today the beach was plenty wide during this interval of time......but don't tell the crowds that go to the "north end" Carolina Beach.....naw...all those folks would probably get stuck and washed out with the tide if they even tried the "south end".....some legends are around for a reason.......

Those are some of the best LC pics I have ever seen. Thanks for posting, like all the modded 40s and 60s.

Sounds like a great time on the south end. Are some of those pictures from around the Calabash area? I have been wanting to go there and check it out.

Great Pics Gary, wouldn't line-x though cause more of a non-slip surface friction for the Kayaks?

Gary, I'm going down this weekend. I have the all-year pass from last year but need to renew it, is the cost still $40?

Thanks for the feedback on the pics.....facebook's got an awesome collection of cruiser photos
Mihai, The southend year-round pass is still $40....congrats on getting into UNCW...
Greg, you are right about the LineX.....I thought that the spoiler on the '00 was metal....it's actually black ABS....don't have to worry about scratches/rust....
We've been out there four evenings this week....there's an incredible dark green FJ40 with a snorkle and a champagne 80 series with "TOYOTA" on the grill that were out a lot this week.....no more than 5 rigs sighted on any one evening
Last night there was one place where the beach narrowed to about 60 feet from the dune line to the surf.....Danny blowing off-shore....great waves crashing violently......

We've been out there nearly a dozen times this month......there was a 89 era Bronco stuck to the rear axel at the beach end of Crossover 1 this Sunday......was snatched out by a monster pickup......drama in the sand.....
Coming off the beach there's always deer between Loggerhead Road and the boat slip......and sometimes Britt's doughnuts on the way home........thanks for another sunset!
