I'm just debating to keep the tube doors on or cave due to the threat of rain and put the "real" doors on...

Jerry, I feel your pain. I'm putting the hardtop and doors on my 40, with the understanding there will be enough folks to help me pop it off there if weather permits. Why not just pack the tubes and have a quiet / dry / warm ride up, and change out accordingly?

Your hard top comes off that quick? I popped mine in Moab and it was almost an hour to get it back on.
I really want to make some hardware that will enable clamps like my 45 has. Much faster that way than all the bolts. The 45 is about a 5 minute deal if you leave the doors alone.

Hmmm.....I feel another design idea coming. Quick clamps for mounting and folding sides. How sweet would that be to have it all folded down "flat".

Oh, and a bitchin FJ45 that may or may not be for sale.

Hmm somebody is on the right track... question is do you trust us? I think we're going to backtrack and buy the fixins here, rather than spend camping and riding time, shopping for food that COULD be slightly inflated (think OBX). Granted I want to support the local community, but...

So, if everyone trusts us, we're going to spend some time and money here, so that if it's a torrential downpour, we're not trying to fix a lot of things in it.

7am Triangle group meet at the BP near Southpoint mall exit 274 on I-40, get there early, I'd like to roll out as close to 7 as possible
8:30 Triangle Group meets the Triads at Sandy Ridge Rd. Exit 208 on I-40
(has the farmers market which will have a large parking lot available also two gas stations at that exit. (Meet at a gas station have your radios on)

Shooting for lunch right at noon in Bristol, VA.
Getting in to Harlan at 3-4pm....

Driving 421 pretty much the whole way there, it's only 30 minutes longer than the quicker way, and we should see some better scenery

Forecast for the trip is looking better today. Chance of scattered thunderstorms on Friday, 30% of light rain on Saturday. Clear on Wednesday/Thursday/Sunday.

Heather and I are driving up early Friday morning, leaving here around 4 AM

That should put us there at about 7:30 or so Fri AM.

We plan to set up out tent and then get ready and hit the trails.

Just spoke with Martin (the FL guy). He is at BudBuilt having a Lefty installed. He may be able to make Harlin by Thurs evening. Be on the look out for a motorhome towing a yellow FJC on a trailer.

Please offer him a hand unloading the FJ if you can. Martin is in a wheelchair and just got the trailer and is not set up to winch the FJ off the trailer by himself yet.

Thanks much, see ya'll Friday morning.

Stan

Ok since everyone is either on their way up right now, or going on Friday. The plan to caravan has been cancelled... Barry, I think you were the only one left that hadn't said when they were leaving...

I really wish I would have made this run. I was hooking up the 40 to my truck when my throttle cable tore in 2 pieces. Now instead of wheeling with the group I have the weekend to replace the cable.

Awesome trip!!

Big thanks to everyone that contributed. Stan and Heather did an excellent job guiding us through the trails and Heather and Brian put together another excellent event and some damn good chili!!

Trails were a bit slick but we still had a great time. Nothing like wheeling a new spot and not knowing what is around the next corner. It's some of the steepest wheeling I've done and when wet equals a high pucker factor.

Can't wait to go back - SOON. Here are a few videos that Jared shot yesterday on our way back down to camp. I've got a ton of pics that I'll post once they upload.

ENJOY!!

those werent the pictures of me "walking" the rock garden I'd hoped for

Man what a trip. I was afraid it might have been spoiled by the rain but we were in luck and had a great weekend at the trails. Harlan is large. It will take many trips to cover the entire area and get to know where you are going.

Thanks to Stan and Heather for the guidance and to Brian and Heather as mentioned for a well planned trip, and even more well planned chili.

todays excursion made the ride home a long one and our RDU crowd should be rolling in her shortly after midnight. It was neat to see mason jar and the yahoos givin it hell in what turned out to be a multi pull winchathon for even the most over built rigs to be found. Lots of gravel for us which finally managed to rattle lose Brians knuckle studs....I smell a HAMON

some of the pics i took

Ramon figuring out why they call it canopener

all you can really say is wow! esp when it came out the other side w/ all the sheetmetal intact

but with all that might and a good dose of redonculousness, Ramon shows em how the lil Yota that could just walked on by the stuck full size on tons and up and out the hardest line; probably the highlight of the trip as i was chasing him down to offer an unecessary spot and got to here all the locals jawwing in amazement

and then there was that other 40 w/ fancy cable lockers and hand throttles and a rattly motor
