THe sites with electric are in the main parking/camping area and are closest to the bathrooms/showers. Site number 3 is farther up the mhill from the main area and not really within walking distance to the bathrooms. It would certainly be more comfortable for those that would prefer not to drive to the bathrooms or showers to remain i the lower site. The lower site is just far more busy than the upper sites.
Obviously having electric will benefit many. We camp primitive style so we are not set up for electric use ourselves but are more than happy to go with the flow. In fact Heather was joking around with me this morning about it saying she is just happy to be going wheeling with a wheeling crowd that likes to camp rather than a bunch of socialites that happens to drive their rigs around the park between chat sessions.
I'd say keep your reservations as they already are and we can adapt. Do you have those reservations under ONSC? I need to call and reserve myself and would prefer to be in the same area. I just spoke with Heather and she has no problems being closer to the bathroom/shower

I'm an 80% or so on going. The only wheeling thing that scares me is trees bumping the rain gutter when you are leaned way over. Did that at Uhwarrie when I had the hard top on and it pissed me off.

Oh, and a bitchin FJ45 that may or may not be for sale.

Barry, the format for this ride will be very similar to what was proposed in the GST run we talked about a while back, we're all there to elimnate any damage we can, this is not a on your own type ride, slow and steady wins the race.

I'll second what Greg said. I'm bringing the 80 and definitely don't want to come home with body damage...
If the 80 will fit then I'm sure your 40 will. We'll just have Jason lead the way for us .
Looking forward to wheeling a new to me place and meeting some new peoples!
I'm on the fence about bringing the dog. Ramon, you said Splash was staying at home, what about Jerry, Brian and Jason. You guys bringing your dogs?

i would guess we will have some strong navigators on the trip with us too. We all wanna come home with pretty rides and good pics for sure.
I am really looking forward to this trip. I am starting this week to make preparations as my new rear arb air locker will be going in, Power steering is on and I have to get my trailer hitch fixed where it got blasted by a ford exploder so I can tow a trailer up there.
How many people are we up to at this point. Seems like a pretty solid crowd.

also we should incorporate Coal Creek OHV into our future plans. The Upstate guys went for thier OTMT trip this year and the pictures were awesome and they all said they didnt even scratch the surface of the amount of trails out there. I think its not a bad drive either.

Did you take the ARB out of the 62??? or get a new one. I know you said you were going to put a Aussie in the 62 and put the ARB in the 40 last time we talked.

Ended up buying one from a guy for 500shipped. Its brand new and he needed the cash fast. I am not brave enough to install it myself though which is proving to be quite costly. I havent committed to anyone yet to install it but i have to this week and its going to cost me at least 600$. I dont have the knowledge to do gears and if it gets done wrong i am really f'ed.
I had a line on an already built axle at one point which i shouldve just done. It wouldve ended up being the same price.

To answer some questions:
Stan I've got 4 sites reserved, but I told him we had 20 people, I don't think you need to add an additional site, I think he's going to be pretty lenient. But I can give him an updated number...
I'm bringing Nalu, as the doggy sitter is going to be coming along with us. He needs to blow off some steam, much different dog than the OBX trip... sooo different...
I'm not up for any damage either, specially with being far away, no sliders, and no MT tires...
As far as a trail schedule, I'm letting Stan be point, but I think just an exploratory ride would be nice, and take things as they come! We'll have 2 solid days of riding, and we could always try and fit some extra stuff in, like nights...
I'll have some lists of some alternative things to do, if someone wants to shoot away from the group for a little, but I'm not planning any side excursions... Unless people want it..
I did read Cumberland is the only town in Harlan county that sells alcohol. Harlan itself is a dry county...

Janet just dropped a Baby Dr's appt in my lap for Thurs afternoon. My grand plans of being in AVL on Wed/Thurs then up to Harlan are being seized.
Working out details to see if we can move the appt so I can leave on Thurs. hopefully from AVL but might be in RDU convoy.

Are you comfortable with pulling the diff out yourself? If so, do what I did. Pull the diff, set the arb, then take it to a gear shop and just have them double check the backlash. If you aren't removing the pinion, it's actually "easy". The pinion depth will already be set, so you will only need to verify the backlash is set correctly (side to side movement of the ring does this) by spinning the adjusters. The only trick I had, was I needed to bake my ring gear to get it back on. That mf'r was tight. It was a frantic hot potato dance running down to the basement with a hot gear in my gloves.

The guy down here that suggested I buy my compressor from Chase at East coast said he would do mine for 150 if i took him the 3rd as well. Only problem is I dont have the time but he is still doing it for 250 which is still a steal. 4 wheel parts wanted 400 to set it up and 350 to install the compressor. As a result i did not buy anything from them...
Ramon you put one up front?
Damn this trip is going to be fun....

Yeah, one up front.
Couple of things - he had to replace the carrier bearings in mine because they weren't compatible with the ARB, which Chase hadn't accounted for. That bumped the install price by a little more than $50. He showed me the bearings and apologized he was unaware it would be necessary. Hopefully will be putting my 3rd back in tonight, tried last night and on jack stands it is not a one man job. I'll need to figure a way to use a jack or something, or recruit some help because it's even that much heavier w/ the ARB in there and I can't steadily lift it while laying on my back/side.

Yep. That carrier bearing thing was a little treat that ARB provided when they eliminated some of thier models to shrink the number of products they had to produce and give a more universal fitting. I bought an old version that was brand new so I luckily dont have to swap carrier bearings. Hope to have it in tomorrow. Power steering and a rear ARB should be a nice change from what Ive gotten used to.

Shirts for the trip
We'd talked about offering shirts for this ride and the plan is to order shirts for only those interested since we have a smaller group attending compared to the Spring Tide Ride.
Shirts will be white or grey long sleeve with the Harvest Haul logo (see first post on this thread) on the back and a smaller logo on either the sleeve or left chest (see below).
We are also on a limited timeframe and plan to submit the order Thursday. Price per shirt isn't concrete as it will change based on how many we order; however it will probably be close to $20 each.
If you are interested in a shirt, please PM me with size and quantity by EOD Wednesday.
I think these are going to turn out really good and Heather did a great job on the logos!!

Just so you guys have an idea of how they do their trail rating, I did a youtube search for some of the different trail names. Anything less than a 4 doesn't warrant a name...
Class 5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhPto1IwMRw&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgoxUwRzGO0&feature=fvsr
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq0LkoBpMMo
Class 4

We wont be going up any class 5s or 4s (unless you want to). Lower Damnation is rock buggy only and few of them make it through without pulling cable.
Upper Damnation is doable and interesting, last time we did it there had been a rock slide at the entrance that made it interesting.
Mason Jar is far tougher than that video makes it look. There is also high risk on Mason Jar as it is on the spine of a ridge at the top of the mountain, a big mistake there could hurt you in a bad way. Great views from up there though. Great sppot to watch full on rock buggies do their thing.
There are several areas where there are some tough trails that have easy access in and out, like Grapevine. I've been up and down the lower section of Grapevine and it was pretty cool. It changes a great deal depending on how bad it has been rutted out by rigs and the weather. A couple people in our group have tried upper Grapevine but were unable to get up it, too slippery that day.
There is a rock garden on the Evarrts side off the side of trail #12. I have not gone through it but I have seen FJ Cruisers, Tacos and mildly modded Jeeps do the lower section. You'll need a bit more rig to continue past the first out.
There are a good many trails that are class 3-4 that are not strewn with huge rocks that are just technical. Harlan is my favorite place to wheel.

We're still going to let you lead the way! You still don't really get a good perspective from pictures and video of what it's really like, until you're right up on the obstacle...
