I can take June or wait until July depending on priority of other folks repairs. I have a couple more 1000 miles before hitting 90k on the 100 series. Planning to target the timing belt, h2o pump, etc. and investigate/repair the exhaust leak. Will probably wait on the starter for later since it seems fine now.

Well guys, I know it's short notice, but I may need to request a semi-emergency HAMOM.

The reason I couldn't make it to the URE ride this past weekend was that I had a couple of things on the 4Runner to look at to see what was wrong to get it ready for the 4Runner Jamboree in a couple weeks. The first problem, a suspected bad front u-joint wasn't as bad as I thought. Turns out that I'm pretty sure the sound I was hearing was the driveshaft rubbing ever so slightly on the exhaust. no big deal. However, the other problem that I discovered is one that I made need some help with.

Background: When I blew my rear diff at GSMTR last year I decided to move my low-pinion ARB'd diff from the front to the rear and got a hi-pinion ARB'd diff for the front. It was a real tight fit going into the front housing and since I was doing it alone, I managed to ding up the copper line a little when it went in. It leaked pretty badly, but did lock up. Since it was the weekend before EC4RJ when I did the install last year, I went with it and figured I'd fix it later. Well, later I pulled the diff and thought I had the line repaired, managed to get the diff back in the housing, had it all bolted up, tested it, no leaks. Done, right? Wrong.

So as I was driving the 4Runner around in a gravel lot in 4wd trying to figure out the noise that ended up being the front shaft on the exhaust, I figured I'd hit the front locker just to check on it. Compressor came on....kept pumping.....and pumping.....not shutting off.....crap. Got out of the truck, pulled the front diff drain plug and it's pretty obvious that the leak is in the diff. A few choice words yelled at the diff later, I came to the realization that I'm going to have to pull the freakin' thing again.

So, anybody want to come by to help me pull the birfs and front diff this weekend, let's say Saturday, May 23rd? I realize this is Memorial Day weekend, and I know it's short notice, but I'd appreciate any help I can get. I'd do it the following weekend, but I already have plans that weekend that I can't break and I leave for EC4RJ that following Thursday. We can break for lunch and toss some burgers on the grill and the garage fridge is pretty well stocked with frosty beverages.

I'm not sure how much time I can commit on Saturday, but I can come over to help. I'm particularly interested in seeing how to remove the diff. Post up if there are any additional tools or equipment you think you need for the job.

Pretty sure I have all the tools we'll need, since I've pulled it twice already. Thanks Clint!

Just got the replacement seal housing from Marlin, so all I need to do is stop by the parts store and pick up some grease for the birfs, some more gear oil, and some shop towels and I should be good to go.

For anybody that wants to stop by and lend a hand, or just wants to stop in and have a beer and watch, I live at 809 Bluestone Road in Durham. It's only about a mile from Exit 278 on I-40, which is the exit for Rt. 55. Come off the exit and turn left onto 55, going away from Apex. You'll pass a Japanese restaurant on the right. Then at the next light, take a left onto Carpenter Fletcher Rd. Go about 1/3 mile, then turn right to stay on Carpenter Fletcher. Make your next left onto Bluestone Rd. I'm about 1/3 mile down on the right.

Oh, and I'm not quite the early bird that others have been, so if anyone comes by at 8am to start working, you'll probably have to wake me up.

I plan on being out in the garage around 9-9:30. I'll have coffee for any who'd like some.

Sorry I couldn't escape and come by to help out Allen. Glad Clint was able to lend a hand and you guys got it done. Clint is a workhorse. Hopefully, all is good and you'll be able to get it up to the event in a couple weeks...

No problem. It's really a 2-person job anyway. A 3rd person would've probably just had to stand around, drink beer, and "supervise".

Hey all, will likely be doing a front axle rebuild on Emma's "new to us" 80 in the not so distant future. I would like to jump in for around August/September timeframe.

We could do both in a day if you come over, we can do them here if we have enough folks show up.

I can PM you the info on the tierod ends. I also replaced the relay rod ends at the same time a couple month ago.

FWIW, on the knuckle rebuild kit, I ordered mine with all the bearings from Iron Pig.

Did you order new OEM rods and ends??? If you haven't give Bud a call at Bud built. Way beefier than stock and he has the ends most of the time also. If not call Kurt at cruiser outfitters his end kit is $89 for all four. They are the same circle 555's that sometimes comes from toyota.

I'm spreading it around, i ordered the "beefier then stock" rods from Bud (nice guy) he was out of the ends but is going to source me some oem ends since i wasn't in a hurry. i ordered marlin HD inner seals and a couple other items from Slee. i called IPOR for the knuckle/bearing kits but got their answering machine, will call back monday.

Yeah bud is the nicest guy I have ever talked to on the phone period. Plus with him in Lenoir he is a local guy.

I'm trying to convince him to make some skid plates for the 80. When you talk to him again mention it to him.

Bud is a nice guy. He stopped by NC State last fall and took measurements for FJC skids that would be compatible with a FabTech lift. Never heard back from him though, so if you want to convince him to do something for the 80 you'll probably have to bug the hell out of him.

OME 850J/863 Lift

I think my OME lift kit has sat in the back of my truck long enough. It's time for me to put it on. Maybe not an official HAMOM, but anyone willing to lend a hand to a newb would be very much appreciated. I think I have everything I need, but would appreciate any suggestions to make installation easier.

I'm thinking Friday afternoon, Aug. 7th. I get out of work around 3pm and should be good to go by 4pm. I will order pizza (sorry, no grill) and have beer on hand for anyone stopping by.

If it all works out, I can probably pick up some new shoes for the rig on Saturday and have something to show at the Charlotte meeting at Whitewater on the 9th.

Al, now's your chance to make up for backing out on helping me with the axle rebuild .
