Yes, I read about those forms. Luckily it is over 25 years so it doesn't have to pass emission and the safety test. That is if I read it correctly.
Great another safety inspection. The nimrod that came out before couldn't tell a steering wheel from a tire let alone inspect a car. Not to mention rude as hell. About knocked his teeth out. All over an old POS Dodge.
I have all of the history of the car and the Bill of Sale so that shouldn't be a problem.
Sounds like I'm going to try and title it in Oregon. That way I don't have to worry about the inspection and pay all the damn taxes they have in this state.

You will need proof of residence in Oregon. The trucks is exempt from inspection in NC anyways due to the age I believe. Taxes should not be anything major. Unless I am missing something about you becoming an Oregon resident.

x 2. Juans right. The only inspection that you will have to go through is a safety inspection due to the age of the truck. I dont remember my taxes being much on my old 40. For what its worth, I had to go through a lot of hoops getting the title straightened out on my 40. I had to take it over to the license and theft division for an inspection, all in all those were pretty good guys to deal with.

I will have to dig into it a bit more I guess. I am an Oregon resident and have all of my rigs but my dodge registered there. I don't have to pay taxes, the registration and liscensing is about the same or cheaper and I don't have to deal with the theft inspection. I bet most of those inspectors are ok but the one for Harnett County is an Ahole.
Just found out yesterday that I might get left behind for this rotation. Good for wheeling bad for cash flow. So we will see what gets done. Bright side though looks like I will get to come out a lot this year and play. Might even get my wife into it....though she bailed out on the 80 as a daily driver becuase of gas price fears...
Will find out today but looking like an early May arrival for the FJ43.

I'm sure you can find a load of people in Wake county that'll have it inspected, titled, and garaged for you...

Darn,
I missed an important e-mail Thursday while I was at OBX. Looks like if I can get some money down there and paperwork done the 43 might leave port on the 5th...but more than likely the 12th as I doubt they can get all of the paperwork down there done today.
So if all goes well today looks like I might be making a trip down to Charleston SC around Friday the 22nd to pick it up.
I guess they rebuilt the carb and it starts and runs like a top now. If all of the legal stuff is easy in the US it might just be ready for a trip in June.

Look forward to seeing it in person. Glad everything has worked out. You should try and compile all the information you have on the process of getting the truck start to finish and keep it with it.

More bad news. Paperwork this and paperwork that.
The BS part of it is most of the paperwork I already had but copies don't work and some of it is too old. I guess I can't complain to much. I am getting a lot of help from very good people down there. Just frustrating that I'm here and I don't understand their Governement. Here this would be a piece of cake.
I don't even have a guesstimate anymore. I'm guessing a month realistcally maybe before it ships out so about 2 months before it gets here.

At least you are getting the help you need, just be patient and before you know it it'll all be complete and you'll have a very nice rarity to show for it.

Well,
I was informed today that there is no way to get the FJ43 home.
Juan who is working on it down there has done everything he can for me and more. I really appreciate everything he has done for me and it is sad that all of the effort we put into it, we were not able to get it here.
I am waying my options of what I can have done now.
#1: Sell that one and get another sent in its place. (Mechanically this one was in very good shape).
#2: Sell it and buy something else here. Or Sell it and use some of the money to build up this 62 that I should be picking up Friday.
#3: Drive it all the way home? Haha just kidding.
Looking for input from all of you.

Why can't it be sent??
If you get another won't you just have the same problem getting it here??
That really sucks Jason I was looking foward to seeing the 43 as it is one of my favorite kinds.

what is the issue with the rig? is it just paper work?
I would go thru an importer/exporter they deal with this type of paperwork all the time...and they are a more believable sorce when it comes to copied materials

I'm pissed for you...as much trouble as you went through and all the due diligence and time you spent on this. It seems like total bullsh!t that it can't get imported. It's not like the USA's your carbon footprint is gonna explode with one more car... .

So what's the story with it? It's a 1980, so the 25 yr rule should be fine. As long as you have the title, there should only be the money end of the problem. Shoot....I will be there in a month or two. Maybe I can poke someone (though I know very little spanish)

Well,
The problem lies around Colombian laws of which there are more than you could shake a leg at. You would think Obama had been down there for the last 60 years with everything they have their hand in. The government has their hand in everything down there.
It all comes down to a Police inspection that can not be completed because of an engine transplant that was done some years ago. Though I had a copy of an old police inspection that was done with that engine just a couple of years ago so I'm a bit confused as of yet. I don't know many more specifics as I have not been there but this is the reason it can not be sent. They have specific laws about the paperwork that must be present to ship used vehicles out. Though to any reasonable person who looked at the law could see that it is nonsense it is still the law there and is preventing it from being sent back.
It was an amazing vehicle minus the bad repaint that was done. I'm hoping I can work something out where I can get another vehicle sent in its place or if it does not make sense sell the vehicle down there and compensate Juan who would be able to help me and then use the money on another rig here.
It really sucks and maybe if I was there I could try and get more things done....there is always a way...but this is not the case and I could not have asked any more from Juan who has been helping me. He has been bending over backwards to try and get this vehicle back to the states.
I am trading one of my old diesel Mercedes for a 62 on Friday and if I could use teh money to fix it up that would be great...though I would have much rather had the 43 here as it was such a great vehicle and in such good condition.
We will see what the next couple weeks brings as I speak more with Juan and look at all my options. I'm not going to rush anything but as of now it looks pretty bleak.
We will see soon enough what comes of it all.

Pfftt!!! Take the motor out. I can sell you a 12HT diesel and THAT would be one rare cruiser.

That is what I was going to do while I was down there. I was going to pull it and put it in an ISU 90 and bring it back and then ship the car but it appeard that would not really help the situation.
I may still do that but that will add substantial cost and effort on someone elses part as well which would probably put me close to the 4K range pluse paying the guy and whatever else has to be done and we are talking 6+ easily.

Well....pulling a 2F is pretty easy. Assuming you just tossed the motor, or better yet, GAVE it to the guy who pulls it, you can easily pick up an entire 2F over here for less than a grand. This truck deserves a 5spd anyway.

So what is exactly the problem? A police inspection? does your friend have any contacts there???....anyways I am sure it could most likely be all resolved if you just get help from the right people. While there might be cumbersome laws compared to here, there are ways to get exceptions, especially about something like this.
