Arrow August Meeting/Cookout and Trail Ride-Uwharrie, NC

Alright so in our (July) ride a few weeks ago at Uwharrie the early crowd experienced a very quite and less traveled trail system, not to mention a much cooler ride. We are going to try something during the August ride to see how things go and how everyone feels about the idea for future rides, esp. in the summer months where high humidity and high temeratures keep most at home.

The plan is this, this months August ride will be one that we test our idea out on, we will be getting a group camp site and providing a meal Saturday midday. We invite those that this is possible for to arrive Friday night at group camp and sit back and relax, Saturday morning we will do a early ride (7:30-8:00 to around 11:30 or thereabouts). From there we will make it back to group camp for a large lunch as a club and discuss club activities and future events as a club (lately we have enjoyed the trails but fallen back on our club discussions). After lunch there is an open afternoon for families and everyone to enjoy Badin like, fish, hang out at group camp, or just relax before a early night ride (6:00-9:00). The intentions are this, while the heat and traffic are usually an issue during the summer and fall months we have found on past rides we miss alot of this with an early ride and this also gives opportunities for families to have a little time together to enjoy the area.

What I would like to do is offer up the club consensus of what weekend works best in August. Obviously the first weekend isn't going to work and most have expressed that the last weekend, being labor day, is difficult due to previous plans.

This will be August 22-24th (third weekend). We will be camping at Badin Lake Group Camp at Site B, if you are the first to arrive, make yourself at home this has already been taken care of.

Please post up your intentions and number of individuals going so we can organize this ride accordingly. Hope to see everyone there.

As the Guiness Cartoons would state "BRILLIANT"

I like the idea of a cooler ride "you must have taken heart to my posts" and a night ride would be great.

Also the date makes a lot of sense to me as well. The weekend before that would be fine though as well.

Due to prior plans, I can't make that weekend.

Hopefully I'll be able to make the September ride.

Really hoping to make it to this one, even if it's just driving out for the cookout and an afternoon ride. Gotta check w/ the scheduler when I get back from L.A. though.

Most likely Friday night. I've gotta kind of wait it out and see how heavy my work load is going to be before I can really say.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the ride. I'll be in Japan on business.

You would think with technology these days you would be able to VTC..video tele-conference. That would be like saying hey..fly me 4 days to afghanistan for a 30 minute meeting. What the heck....pick up a phone and head out to the trails. Unless you feel like getting out of the office and wasting some corporate dollars what is it you all do that is so necessary to fly around the world. I mean really?

I like the early-morn late-afternoon idea, but I will miss this one. I leave for Denmark on the 16th, getting back Labor Day weekend...

We is impo-tant bidnithmen.

Can't speak for the others, but what I do is very hands-on and cannot be done via video, nor remotely. In fact, I get to go to Singapore Sept 7 for almost 2 weeks so I may miss any September events.

Well since everyone is chiming in, I am a process chemist for a biotech company. I'm responsible for the initial aseptic formulation transfer of gentically engineered proteins from our headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. I watch what they do in DK, apply it to our setup, make the initial transfer batches, and then wait for the FDA to ask questions..

Well, I love how work changes your plans. I may now be able to make it to Uwharrie this month. Just found out from my project manager that I may be redirected from Japan to China to work with our factory for the first two weeks in September. I'll know more in a few days hopefully, but now I am a maybe.

This will be doubly cool because I'll be putting on the Hanna sliders this weekend and this will give me a chance to break them in on Daniel and Rocky Mtn.

Hmmm,

The 22-24 is ACTUALLY the 4th weekend!!!!

Looks like I MIGHT be bringing a 4-Runner...Can a Stock 4 Runner handle Uwharie?? It has 31's and a slightly saggy rear end. 33's and a lift for the future but this will be a shake out run none the less (I bet you guys hate me...why can't I just stick with one vehicle and make it work )

I still can't trust my 40 to do anything but run to the fuel station for milk and donuts.

Looks like I will be comming Friday night and leaving after the lunch on Saturday. I was thinking 3rd weekend, but I have Kenny chesney tickets the 23rd in the evening.

4 runner will def make it stock with 31's I have wheeled 2 up there.
Cant make the ride. I am doing the Over the Mountain tour with the UPstate Cruiser and Toyota Trail Team guys.
Usually one wheelin weekend per month is all I can afford!
I was up there on the trails by 730 a few weeks ago and its is very nice to be off and home by early afternoon that is a great call for sure.

I should be able to make the ride based on latest work plan. I'll plan to be there Friday night with my family (4 + dog) and camp Friday and Saturday nights.

addicted56,
looks like you got a sweet deal on the 4runner. You've got a lot of work ahead of you getting the engine running. Before my 80 I owned an 89 4runner (1st gen) for 17 years so I have experience with the 3vz engine and that gen of chassis. It may be terms for dismissal, but you should also check out yotatech forums since they have a strong 4runner and pickup group. You should touch base with Fort Knox since he has a built 95.

AWESOME DUDE!!! COWABUNGUA!!!

Sorry couldn't help myself.

The shop is closed for the next 2 days but I should have the 4-runner up an running by Friday. So it appears I won't have to bum a ride to the event.

I'm getting stoked for it.

Do you have directions to this campsite? I have never been to Uwharrie before.
