I don't recognize the Cruiser. It looks like a '79 or later, and appeared to be in good condition before the wreck. That sucks!

Yikes...

I still say a cage and a winch are the first 2 mods anyone should make...

Yeah, that reminds me to look into roll bar improvements. Given the trails I'm on, it seems to be stupid not to. I think a roll at 70mph on pavement would be even worse than this. Ouch.

I wouldn't trust a factory FJ40 roll bar to hold up to anything but a bikini top!

My original plan was to duplicate a factory roll bar specs on everything but tubing wall thickness. I was going to weld the joint at the support, then bolt all the "decoration" back on so it looked factory still. After riding on the Rubicon, and seeing this photo, I'm actually thinking about going with one of those cages that bolts to the dash. I can't stand having the down tube in the way of my leg like on my last truck, even though drilling holes in the dash doesn't sit well with me either. Hole in the dash or hole in the head.....easy choice.

I just looked back at the photos, and on the zoom in, you can see the factory bar is intact. No doubt because he had the hard top still on. What's amazing is how crumpled the windshield is.....like no longer there.

That would be a cool idea for a cage. It could be functional and have the Cruiser look. Just try to incorporate as much triangulation into it as you can.

The stock roll bars were only there to meet a government regulation. I would definitely not trust my life with one of them. I have seen too many pics of them crushed during roll overs. And if you've ever picked one up, you know there's not a lot of material there.

Have you seen the up and over innovations cages? Well, even the metal tech one's are not bad. Metal tech makes a "factory replacement bar" that you can use to add onto. I like the up n over front, but the metal tech rear design.

I have seen both cages. If you like the front of one and the back of another, you may be better off to build your own cage to get it like you want it. If you don't have the tools and equipment to do so, contact P.J. Mallory at M and M OffRoad in Mocksville. He's a great fabricator, and he's a Cruiser guy too.
